[LM24] Forgotten places at Le Mans

Hello.

As an off-spring of the Reminders of Le Mans, I though we should have a thread with the Forgotten places at Le Mans. ei. places which has been at Le Mans for a long time, and/or had a significant place in the history, which now, is more or less forgotten.

Two examples of this from the "Reminders of Le Mans" thread is:

• The "Pee Wall" behind the Grand Stand opposite the pits.
• The old Hairpin before heading down Mulsanne Straight

What do you feel is a Forgotten place at Le Mans?:

It pains me that I never got to see that straight!
I would have loved it! - Especially as unhindered as that.

The forest leading from the Esses to Tertre Rouge. Used to be my favourite viewing area, because nobody seemed to know about it, as it was always incredibly quiet!

Not got any photo's but those of us that are old enough will remember the view during the race from the restaurants on the Mulsanne, to be leaning on the barriers as cars swept past was amazing and even as the police tried to stop that free view you could look over the fences, real shame you can no longer do that

No, although you got the area right of course. But there used to be a lot more trees there, and some sort of 'smugglers-path' through the trees, starting at the Esses and leading to Tertre Rouge.

Thats right - there used to be a thick line of trees, on the bank next to the track, roughly from the edge of the gravel trap from the Esses to just before the tunnel. Between this line of trees and the track was a small path that you had to clamber up the bank to get to - it was right next to the track. Not many people seemed to realize it was there but for years it was the closest place you could get to the cars and the noise really echoed off the trees. I used to sit there for some time until my ears hurt as at that time the noise really was deafening with the cars (like the Batmobile Panoz) only a few feet in front of you and the trees right behind.

I have forgotten where i was friday Night 2 years ago. But saturday i remember as there were a lot of noisy racecars running near my tent.

The feelings you got standing there was amazing your whole body felt the cars going past, your ears could not handle the level of noise which seemed to resonate for some time after they had past and your eyes could not focus on the cars as they shot past just metres away from you

The view from the top of the big wheel when it used to be at the top of the hill near the Dunlop bridge. You could see the first part of the Mulsanne from it.
