Rallycross GP Brands Hatch ten years ago, if memory serves me well the race featured Hansen, Pailler, Eklund, Schanche etc. Have a few more pics if interested.

I cant remember if this happened in the final or the semi final in 1994 (they had 8 cars in each semi final) with the top 4 in each going through to the final. On the way up to druids, Hansen, Eklund and Schanche were battling for the lead and schanche launched himself into the back of Eklunds Saab causing a massive oil leak and petrol explosion causing the big gulf of flames from the back of Eklunds Subaru Impreza and the front of Schanches Escort as seen in the picture. Hansen who was third at the time then pulled over the check that both drivers were ok as the race was stopped.
In the final Hansen won the event from Squibb and Gollop. Squibb had a big roll and accident over the finish line and went over the top of the knife edge severely damaging his Escort in the process. The event was covered on tv on top gear (perhaps top gear motorsport)........i lost my tape of it and was also wondering if any one may have a copy??? |

what i recall from the meeting Martin was flying up the hill when his bonnet opened thus he could see hardly anything! but being Martin he carried on missed the righthand turn and wiped out Per! The suburu Legacy at brands was awesome so smooth over the knife edge brilliant!
it just was well sorted considering it was under powered compared to others that an Pers skill. |

The Subaru was the Impreza not the legacy......legacy was 1993. Pers driving was superb though.....it is great to watch him work at the wheel.....sometimes like driving a tank!

Yes it was the semi final event, as Gollop was on pole for the final and the results were:

I was at the top of hairy hill, sure it was the final. Schanche wasn't overly pressed by the Citroen's that day was he. I can remember him not backing off at the first corner knocking into Hanson which caused his bonnet to come up, typical schanche kept the power on and as Peter s says totalled Eklunds Impreza at top of Druids.

hi,
i found an eurosport clip on the net, with this crash, if someone is interested, email me ( bigfetzo@gmx.net) .i can send you the clip, its 4.5mb, unfortunately i dont know where i have it from. schanche was definately too fast, a big driving mistake from him. i am in sweden for 2 weeks holiday, don't wonder if the reply comes late.
