As a Dad with 3 sons...James..RIP from me too mate.

Thanks Al, some good videos there of the old Camaro. Awesome!
Re-connecting that gadget up to a DVD player, you should be able to connect it to the Scart connector on the DVD player, but you will need a scart to phono lead for that. Then you should be able to just play the DVD and save the file on your PC. Feel free to message me if you need any more help mate.

Glad you spotted all the Mini's Mick! (...and my regards to Helen Hill and Roger).

BTW, not sure if anyone remembers, but the series was featured in Autosport Magazine on 29th August 1991 !
I still have the article!

Thanks Will.

Yes and CC&C we had full track tests for both stories, Art Marcus drove my old Chevy in one and Mark Hales my newer car in the 2nd CC&C test only problem Mark called it a Capri in the article which to me was the ultimate insult! There was another big coverage story in one of the comics after I left and I was very annoyed that the guy they were interviewing stated the loss of the Falken sponsorship was down to me and the committee because we ignored the Japanese MD when he came to visit us at Brands. Infact nothing could be further from the truth as we laid on a box with catering and as the committee and myself were also racing took it in turn to play mine host. I know the part of the reason but I will not put it on an open forum the other part of the reason was I believe the new MD of the importing agents was a golf fan and the sponsorship switched to golf which I found bizzarre as to my knowledge the company do not make golf balls but prehaps they were hoping to boost sales on golf cart tyres!

Yeah, the series was very popular I think, as was proven by the coverage it received.
I like my classic Brit Fords just like the next bloke, Capri's included. But I do prefer Yanks and calling a Camaro a Capri is some mistake, even if it was a misprint! lol

It's a shame that such suggestions were made about the reasons for the series losing the Falken branding. I don't doub't for a minute that you would have looked after the main guy. I am sure that like myself, everyone in the series felt well looked after. And not just the leading drivers either. Even I was recognised for my limited-funded efforts, by being awarded best presented car at the Mallory round in 92.
Still got the trophy!

Both mine and Johns cars were featured in Fast Car mag when they had the pink wheels before the Falken sponsorship, and then the first ever edition of Mini World and also Cars & Car Conversions with full Falken regalia also featured was my mate Ian Goldies yellow Falken Min. if you remember him he totaled it through craner curves on wet day!.

I agree completely Will. the Falken Championship was very well sorted in my opinion (well done Al). I was well under in the horsepower stakes in my class due to funds but got a few best presented awards and at one race (the donnington one i said Al may have a tape of) the committee bestowed no less than 3 trophies.. Overtakers, Third place & Best drive of the day, bearing in mind my whole car prob cost less than the Fiesta or Nova engines! most prestigious one was the annually presented Most Improved Driver. and as yourself i still have all of them!. Good Times!
Just wish i could get out there again!

Hi Mick

Nice one for you and John's Mini's appearances in the magazines mate, brilliant! I remember, they were always very well turned out.

I must admit, I don't remember Ian Goldie totalling his Mini at Doni Park, but I had a bit of a nervous moment going down the Craner Curves myself in the old Sierra. You can see it in the Youtube video actually. It doesn't look much, but there aint much run off at the bottom the hill there if it all goes wrong. I can tell you I did need a change of boxers afterwards! lol

You cannot upload on this forum Dave you have to upload them to somewhere on the net either a photo hosting site like photobucket or to your own webspace then post a link. Email them to me and I will post them up for you if you like.

Thanks for that Al! This is the remains of Rays old Ascona after he sold it to Andy Trapnell. Ray built a 2.0 litre motor for it for andy so it could run in group 1 touring cars as opposed to the 2.4 ray used to run. On Andys third meeting at snett he put it on the front row for group1 but entered a second race on the day (modprod) for fun. at the end of the first lap running last in a race he shouldnt of been in he lost it at coram and went in hard, wrecking a cracking car that Ray had so much success in over the years. All this was in 1994.

Excellent compilation Dave featureing the charismatic Craig Davies. That championship with the original rags as I wrote them was right straight out the box, big power low grip 1a tyres, it should never ever been allowed to die after I stood down for personal reasons, sorry. Any BTCC fans may be interested to know the Clarkin Cavalier was the ex-Ian Khan car.

Yes Al an awesome championship which i spent most of my teenage years around. Nobody can blame you for standing down, things like motor racing become very unimportant when things like that happen. As regards to the cavalier i thought it was Ian Ashleys old one although it could of been Khans before that.

Unless Clarkin had two Cavaliers, it was Ian Ashley's. It was Vauxhall development car before that, raced by Cleland in '90 and slightly modified for some tests they did with 4wd or rwd. Now owned by Jim Pocklington, unless he's sold it recently.

Here's an in-car vid of mine, been trying to put on youtube with my others but doesn't want to work for me at the moment, so have put it here, quality not so good though.

Cadwell 1995, the one where Gerry Cain & Peter Barnes had a coming together, allowing me to lead for a bit before Gerry caught me

Hi All!

Not sure if many remember me but I am Gareth Rees andhad a few races in 1991/1992 i had a mini, yellow+blue at first then Green+Orange. i still have a few result sheets, grid positions + programs. i was pretty uncompetetitive at the time, spent loads money which i did not have, although had apretty good time! I remember once at Mallory not having a ballaclava and the scruteneers checked me when I was on the grid, I had tied a hanky round my neck and pulled it up to show them!!! I crashed at the end of the first lap just by the finish line!! There were 4 other minis that day, Ian Goldie, Michael + John Rason + Helen Hill. Not too sure where Roger Hill was that day. I am from Portsmouth and remember a couple of marshalls that came from paulsgrove(in Portsmouth) I belive they where quite senior and used to follow the series around. Anyone remember them?
