Al,
Nope, none of those. I raced both 1.6 and the 2.2 Lotus. Come on Al, rack those brain cells. |

Hi Tony,
Great to see another falken driver appearing on here. I'm not related to Ray although i grew up around him as my dad use to help him prep his cars. I was at was at every meeting helping out, teenage years leave a big impression in the mind! Have you donee anything since the Falken days? Dave |

I've not done any competing since Mod prods. I still have the Sunbeam though.
Al, I'm not a scrutineer as far as I know. I do occasionally have some contact with Nick Davies and Dave Dockree who do the odd Rally together, Nick usually co-drives/navigates. I have helped out with servicing a couple of times. Tony. |

If my memory is working Tony your car was red bottom, white middle and blue top. I seem to remember a wind screen strip that read "Nash Tune" ?
Its great that you still have the car, i guess there are lots of old Decent falken cars around still. Is it still in one piece? |

Thats OK Al, its nice to see you still racing that grumbling Camaro.
Your memory is spot on Dave(Mr Ascona). The blue/white car was Mike Marlowes old road saloon shell. We added the red stripe in 1990, did ok with a 'Nash-tune' engine for a couple of seasons, briefly running it with a stockish Lotus engine for a season. We then built up another shell(sort of burgandy red) to run a self built tuned Lotus unit for the 94 season. Had the usual oil surge problems which resulted in a few missed races, but when it was reliable it went quite well, albeit nowhere near front running pace. I took the engine out last year to freshen it up and it still on the stand in the garage awaiting me to get my bum in gear to box it up. Tony. Last edited by pondlive; 30 Dec 2010 at 12:07. So what did happen to the blue and white shell Tony? I sometimes fancy building a Sunbeam but there is no real place to run one nowdays other than Classic Thunder! It cant be used in other CTCRC series becuase of the 5000 build number rule? Do you have any plans to bring the car back out?

Dave,
Sold the original shell to a guy who was going to put in a Cosworth turbo and Hillclimb it. Advertised it in CCC as 'Sunbeam rollcage complete with bodyshell'. No plans to bring it back out at the moment, not sure exactly what my plans are yet to be honest. Probably road car/occasional trackday, who knows. From what you are saying, it does seem to be a bit restricted on its competition future without expensive mods. Tony. |

Dont they let them in TTRS I know Neil Haslers old car was running in that or was it deemed to much competition for the M3's?

Thats right Al, they let them in and Neil Haslers old car is pretty quick. Andy Clarkins old red one has also made a few appearances as well i think.
Bit more open minded in the regs department. |

I'm sure if you applied to the CTCRC commitee they would consider allowing a Sunbeam Lotus in pre 93's? The TTRS has shown a 2.2 Sunbeam Lotus in no longer a runaway threat up against M3's?

You would think so Joss wouldnt you! I went to the committee a year or so ago as i wanted to build a 2.4 8valve manta. They did build a few but not enough to comply. It was a definate know on the first phone call without it even going to committee. I then went ttrs and a committee decision was made within 24 hours and was let in. I am not starting a slanging match here at all but a bit of sensible open mindedness would benefit sometimes i am sure.

Sorry to here that. To be fair I don't know all the ins and outs on the other championships within the CTCRC, but certainly in Classic Thunder we try and welcome as many as we can, new regs/cars not quite within the regs, are put put to all the drivers for their opinion to see if they can fit in somewhere. The fairest way in my eyes

I did have a quick look at the Toyo regs.
Comparing them with my car which was prepared to the old Falken regs I would have to; a) lose the vented bonnet and bumper. b) lose the golf rear arches. c) put on some smaller front brakes that fit inside a 13'' wheel. Does anyone have any Personal experiance of the Toyo regs, and how the tyres compare to the old Falkens? |

The Toyos are good and grippy but not cheap anymore and dont last as long as the Falkens which can now be used in CTCRC Pre 93' in 2011.
Thing is Dave it is a championship loosly based on Group 1 at the time however I do feel 93's could prehaps be a tad more flexible as they are not based on anything really but not the Gp1 and Post Historics which I think are good as they are. The M3 must be given some opposition in both Pre 93's and TTRS. |

In Toyo the black Cossie of Colin Tester seems to be having it its own way.

Are they restricted as in Pre 93's Stuart? Isnt it the same with all these types of races, one make of car or another always comes to the fore if too restricted and having to stick with homoplogated parts and car types. Thats why we tried to allow some latitude in the old ModProds to get some cars that may not have been competitve with standard kit to change things and give them a chance, variety is in motorsport, the spice of life.

Of course you could always enter Classic Thunder with either list 1b tyres (drop one class) or under the lesser modified "hot saloons" rules which allow a drop of two classes which would put a Sunbeam in class E which is normally for upto 1700cc slick shod cars. The hot saloon regs are along the lines of pre-93 but allow a little weight loss and freer intake.
