Will it be at racing speed ???
It would be great if the Bentley could lap at a pace good enough to qualify it for the GP. I know it probably will not, but it's a nice thought. Simon |

The Bentley's at Silverstone, at racing speed, would be well down on the GP cars. Well down.
In the ALMS race there in 2000 they were something like 11 seconds off the pace of the GP cars |

There's no doubt at all that even running at full tilt the Bentley wouldn't match a reaonably quickly driven modern F1 car.
But I know which one I'd prefer to watch..... |

Now if we still had Grp C on the other hand....
Didn't the XJR-14 go quick enough to qualify 14th for the 1991 British Grand Prix? By the way, while we're sort of on the British GP, tomorrow on ITV at 12:30 there's a program presented by Murray Walker on this years Goodwood Festival of Speed. So if you wanna see the Bentley's, watch it |

Here we are at 11.37am Sat & tickets (despite promises of TNT special van delivery) still haven't arrived.
Looks like i'm going to have to watch it on the TV ! Why can't people sort out tickets in advance for the events. It's just a farce! Group C were the days - i've very fond memories of Le Mans and Brands Hatch in the late 80's. |

I understand there are plenty of walk-up tickets left for Silverstone. Who would have believed the day would come?
The Bentley is a beautiful car and showing it to the F1 crowds will remind people of the days when engineering didn't have to be ugly. (I feel the same way about what is still called "yacht racing" although the Meccano objects racing now are not Yachts by any remote definition of people who actually admire yachts.) |

Well, i made it. Tickets arrived at 6.30 pm Saturday night. The sight of the Bentley lapping at a fair pace once more was fantastic -shame number 8 wasn't on track as well. Ah well, maybe i'm just being greedy.
Could have done more laps though - i counted only 2! |

Two laps? What a waste.

Did you see the ITV section on it. Blundell spend more time talking about how it would look from a F1 car than talking about the Bentley or its achievement - again - what a waste.
They really should have let him drive at racing speed to show how quick it really is. It may be slower than a F1 car but it can do a whole season in one day!! |

Unfortuntely it really didn't get the attention it desered either - our grandstand was almost empty when it lapped. This just sums up the attitude towards sportscar racing. Most people i spoke to didn't even know it was going to be on the circuit.
A british victor of le mans lapping at the British Gp deserved far more coverage. |

Maybe single-seater fans just find sportscars really, really boring?
I love all single-seaters but wouldn't be *rsed to watch this... |
