It changed various hands since and it eventually became Wayne Wakefield's Lites car in 2000 (The white one). As far as I am aware the car is still proudly owned by David Skillender from Graphic Skills and was last raced at the 2001 Konica V8 support race at Bathurst by Tim Sipp from Queensland. This was the car that Tomas Mezera barrell rolled at the Chase in 97 - the bottle magic car.

Dave has two cars, the other is the ex-Heffernan Price Attack car that was the Red car that Canto pranged in 99 with help from Darren Pate. It later become the green and gold rocket that won the konica bathurst race in 2001. Dave still owns this car two as far as i know...
It would be good to see David restore these cars back to VP in Forbes/Heffernan specification for the Muscle Car Masters. Does anyone know of any V8's being restored back to VP/VR/VS specification at the moment ?

I recall he also had an ex Lansvale VS shell which he was going to build up into a new car but I don't think that happened. The "new" car he has now is Perkins based but I don't know the pedigree.
Gary Quartley was driving the Schembri car at PI when the car was destroyed! TEGA stripped the car of ID, Mork bought the remains I think.

The Brock VC as listed is no longer a VC. I have withdrawn all claims that this car is the 1980 Bathurst Winner on the advice of the CAMS HTCEC.

Was it the same car? (ie...did the Everlast convert the HDT-spec VL to TWR spec, or buy a new one??)

If it is the same car, it flew once, came within half a lap of winning on its debut at Calder....

Here is my recollection (IIRC!!)

This car was the first VL built by LP Engineering. It was debuted at Calder in '87 for the 'other' Australian round of the WTCC. The track used was a combination of the circuit & the Thunderdome! (I'd love to run on that layout!)

LP himself drove the car in it's debut race alongside Bill O'brien where it finished 2nd to Terry Shiel/Gary Scott in the soley entered works Skyline (they used this race as some bonus miles for the enduro co-drivers).

It was actually a humdinger battle for the lead between these two cars...

The following year it was converted to 'Walky' spec...

As far as the crashed car - wasn't that the Callaghan VL?

Hope this helps...

The Everlast VL was debuted at Calder in 1987 in the hands of Perkins & O'Brien (even wore #11), but not at the WTCC, at the pre-Sandown 300km enduro. It was passed on the last lap as you say by a PJ Nissan, driven by Shiel & John Bowe though

Callaghan's one got crashed in 1992. The blue Everlast car was crashed during practice in 1987 (same place as Percy went in)

Rod Nash ran one in 98/99 prepare by John Faulkner Racing than sold it to the Lansvale Smash Repairs Team so Trevor Ashby and Steve Reed could run a 2 car team in 2000

Rodney Forbes ran 1 in 1999 prepared by the Lansvale Team and Sam Newman drove it at the AGP in hot wheel colours in 2000 or 2001

Wayne also raced 1 in the enduros 1n 1998 with Paul Stokell prepared by Paris Acott

Didn't Gibbs give it up full-time after 1992 to concentrate on his business (this is mentioned during commentary of Bathurst '92), hence why Neil Crompton was signed to the Forbes car for the full season in 1993?

Yes he did.

As for Onslow, he basically ran out of opportunities to progress and both were effectively lost to the sport, although Gibbs had a bit to do with Tim Shaw's career in the late 90's but that too ran out of steam.

In answer to some of the questions re V8 Supercar chassis:

There were 2 GIO Commodores. Dencar 001 was built in 1991 by Bob Forbes Racing as a VN. It was only raced in a few races by Mark Gibbs before being replaced by a Nissan GTR. Was leased to Bob Pearson for Bathurst as a 2nd Pro Duct entry. Rohan Onslow raced it at an Amscar round in 92 at Amaroo Park, before it was leased to Graham Moore for Bathurst.

At the end of 92 it was leased to Gibson Motorsport who after converting it to a VP, used it as a development mule while building up their own cars. Neil Crompton ran it up until the Waneroo round in 93, Mark Gibbs driving it at Oran Park. It was then sold to Stuart McColl. As part of the deal, McColl raced it as a 2nd BFR car at Bathurst and the Adelaide GP with GIO sponsorship.

McColl raced it in a number of rounds in 94, initially in Kalari Transport colours and later with Dairy Crest sponsorship, its last appearance being at the Adelaide GP. Was then sold to Peter McLeod in 95 who transferred the mechanicals to his ex HRT chassis. McLeod sold the chassis to John Henderson who rebuilt the car but sold it without use to Richard Mork. Mork first raced the car at the Eastern Creek ATCC round in 97 and raced it in the ATCC and later development series until the end of 03 and in the Touring Car Challenge in 04. It was sold to John Burke who has raced it in TCC since 05.

The 2nd GIO Commodore (Dencar 010 from memory) was built by Wally Storey and debuted at Oran Park in 93 by Crompton. It passed with the team to Wayne Gardner and was used up until the Eastern Creek round in 95 by Crompton, being driven by Win Percy & Russell Ingall in the 94 enduros.

It was sold in 96 to Pinnacle Motorsport but never raced, only being used to test Hoosier tyres at Lakeside with Tomas Mezera driving. It was sold to John Trimble in 97. Trimble & Mezera each did a few rounds in it, before teaming for the enduros. It was badly damaged when Mezera rolled it at the Chase at Bathurst.

It was sold to David Skillender and rebuilt for Wayne Wakefield to drive in the 99 enduros. It was again badly damaged at Bathurst after being pushed into the Cutting at speed in a collision with Darren Pate. It was eventually rebuilt and raced by Wakefield at the Lakeside & Bathurst Development series rounds in 01.

WGR001 (Dencar 020?) was raced by Gardner in al races from the beginning of 94 until the Oran Park round in 96 except the 95 enduros when it was raced by Win Percy & Brad Jones. It was sold at the end of 96 to the Lansvale team, who raced it from 97 through to the end of 2000.

WGR002 was raced by Crompton from the Winton round in 95 until the end of 96, albeit in only limited rounds after the team scaled back to 1 car mid season. Brad Jones raced it at Bathurst that year. In 97 Crompton drove it at the Melbourne GP & Indy, Gardner at the Eastern Creek round. It was leased to Peter Bradbury, Paul Stokell & Anthony Tratt for Bathurst. In 98 Gardner raced it at the GP, Indy and the enduros. It was sold to Bob Forbes and raced by Rodney Forbes throughout 99. Sam Newman ran it at the 2000 AGP with Hot Wheels sponsorship.

WGR003 was debuted by Gardner at the 96 Sandown 500 and he raced it until the end of 97. It was sold to Rod Nash who raced it from the beginning of 98 until last using it at the 99 Ipswich 500. It was then sold to the Lansvale so they could expand to 2 cars for 2000.

The car Richard Mork currently uses in TCC is Perkins chassis 025. It was used in the 95 ATCC by Perkins before being sold to Neil Schembri who debuted it at Bathurst. Schembri and Gary Quartly then raced it spasmodically from 1997 until it was destroyed in an accident at the development series round at Phillip Island in 2000. It was at some point sold to Mork and he has used it in TCC since 05.

Neil Schembri’s VP was built at the beginning of 94 by Terry Finnigan. Schembri last raced it at Lakeside in 95. It wax sold to Gary Young who only raced it once at the Eastern Creek that year. It was sold to Michael Donaher who raced it in the 98 Amscar series, before it was badly damaged in practice at Bathurst, being reshelled with one that had been discarded from Paul Morris’s VP in 94 after an accident.
