ALMS 2005 Schedule???

Last year, the ALMS announced their 2004 schedule in mid-summer....

But I haven't seen anything about their plans for 2005 yet....

I'm assuming that last year's unveiling was due to the return trips to Mid-Ohio and Portland, plus the addition of Lime Rock....

Questions:

Should we be expecting this announcement at Petit Le Mans???

Or will we see it sometime sooner???

At Mid-Ohio, Mr. Atherton alluded to a possible race in early April to take place between Sebring and the LM Test Days....he also spoke about trying to "bridge" the East Coast and West Coast elements of the schedule with events that would be en route from coast-to-coast...

Could finalization of such plans be holding up this announcement???

Or will the schedule remain pretty much stable, with the same number of races next year at the same venues with fairly similar dates or weekends that they will take place?

Any insight or thoughts on this???

I read somewhere that we might see a 10-race schedule. But I can't for the life of me remember where I read that.

I got an e-mail a few minutes ago letting me know that the ALMS season is usually announced as part of the "State of the Series" event at Petit...

Last year, there was an announcement at Mid-Ohio for the return of that event to the schedule, but the whole schedule was not released...

So we should look forward to that at Petit...

Carousel should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
The rumor of a 10-race schedule has been around the paddock at least since Mosport. Chris McMurray spreads it in his e-mail "diary" that appears in various places. Expect the full announcement on Friday at PLM. Last year's surprise (besides Laguna Seca ending the season with a four-hour, into-darkness race) was the addition of Portland instead of Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama. Maybe that's the mystery 10th race for '05. The Southern location would fit a springtime bridge between Sebring and Le Mans testing.

The 10-race schedule "blurb" was mentioned in the Chris McMurry diary on www.lmsr.net
