Austrian Grand Prix 2021: Grand Prix Weekend Thread - Round 9 of 23
Not much to add. It was Verstappen again in Styria last weekend. There will be intrigue in seeing if we get a different complexion this weekend to the race, particularly with the different compounds, which have shifted completely towards the softer end of the range.
Circuit length: 4.318 km Number of laps: 71 Race distance: 306.452 km Dry weather tyre compounds: C3, C4 and C5 Lap Record: 1:05.609 (2020 - Carlos Sainz - McLaren-Renault) First Grand Prix: 1963 First World Championship Austrian Grand Prix: 1964 First Grand Prix on current circuit: 1969 First World Championship Grand Prix on current circuit: 1970 First Grand Prix on current configuration: 2014 Join in the fun with the F1 Predictions Contest and Fantasy F1: https://tentenths.com/forum/showthread.php?t=156354 https://tentenths.com/forum/showthread.php?t=156053 |

Here we are again and can Super Max win again? If he can and there is a repeat of last weekend's result, that will give him a 25 point lead over Lewis.
Last weekend the rain never came, however for this weekend F1.com say at this stage there is a 40% chance. https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/a...ulRTjiUzP.html |

It rained a bit in FP2, so we’ll see

Fingers crossed. The track is very very tricky when damp, let alone wet!

Steve r's signature: 'When I look fast, I'm not smooth and I am going slowly. And when I look slow, I am smooth and going fast.' - Alain Prost
One of Kimi Raikkonen's laps in FP3 reminded me of this quote. When going around the final corner and to the start-finish line (onboard), he looked so slow that I thought he'd backed out, but then he set a perfectly competitive laptime. It was interesting, and not something that I have seen very often. |

Wonder what technical directives Toto will get his clerk to fill out targeting Red Bull's performance this time round?

Alonso was right to be bloody furious about the back of the train (Vettel) in T10. Big penalty for Vettel to come, although precedent from last weekend is 3 places.

LANDOOOOOOO!
GEOOOOOORGE! Brilliant laps by both of them. I hope Russell's luck tomorrow is better than it's been so far. |

Norris! Amazing! And Russel too, 9th.
Alonso was looking handy too. But, ooops, Vettee is in trouble for that. |

On the first weekend when Toto goes public with the information that he is evaluating GR and VB for the 2nd Merc seat, GR puts a Williams in Q3 on mediums.....

The starting grid looks quite a lot different, with Super Max on Pole followed by Nozza and Perez; Hamilton and Bottas 4th and 5th, who would have thunk it?

Wow, what a session that was. Great lap by Max as we have come to expect. But what a lap by Lando, makes for an interesting race tomorrow. How Merc must be ruing a second GP here and can't say I blame them that much
So nice to finally see Russell in the top 10 in a Williams for real. And like last week he gains an extra pace due to a penalty from someone else. Just have to hope Lady Luck shines on him this time Vettel really made a mess of that at the end of Q2, just imagine where Freddy would have been without it |

Some wet weather would add even more to fhe prospects but it's now very unlikely to rain at all.
