a1gp - good for formula renault uk?
just a thought, but what with sean mcintosh and stephen simpson going into a1gp and not exactly disgracing themselves, could this lead to a mini-kimi effect from the slightly less strong motorsport countries?

Its a good question. Initially I had a passing interest in A1GP because its the first time you had such a mixture of driver backgrounds. Where else would you see a GP2 driver racing an IRL driver racing a F3 driver racing a DTM driver racing a Formula Renault driver?
However, the rather random results of A1GP have me struggling to read the form guide. On paper Salvador Duran should not be in the same camera angle as Robbie Kerr. And the cars dont look that easy to drive, and the teams dont get much time with them so you cant say everyone's found the perfect setup; so that erases the theory that its more Arden vs DAMS(?). Although DAMS do seem to have some really good cars so maybe in the case of Indonesia, Duran had a pretty good day. Because up until then he's not really shown at any point in his career he was capable of that sort of drive. Likewise random performances from Stephen Simpson. The flipside is how bad Team USA seems to be going, in spite of not having slouches in the car. Phil Giebler is probably the 'worst' guy to drive for them so far, and he's one of our great lost talents. |
