RonThompson should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
A New Member from the Middle east

I hope I'm allowed in here!

When in the UK, I was (and still am) a BARC Member. Here I am Chief Marshal for the UAE Desert Challenge, as well as running a rescue unit at the dubai Autodrome, where we have Club Racing, FIA GT, A1GP and the Dubai 24 Hour GT Race.

Tonight I'm off to Bahrain to Marshal (Sector Chief) for the F1 GP.

More later when I get back

Greetings from a cold, wet Nottingham!!

BTW I like the way the advert at the bottom of the threads have some conection with the thread. I am not so sure how many readers will rush out and purchase "Chronicle Of A Century". On the plus side I saw the ad and if I want it I know how to part with my cash...

Agreed, except I don't think there are any woods in UAE. Tales from the beach will be more than acceptable.

What? Ron didn't bring donuts?

Welcome aboard Ron, happy to have a UAE marshal here. But, as punishment for not bringing donuts, you have to set out all the equipment on the post while we watch and critique your style.

Have fun at F1.

Hi Ron,

I was in Dubai for the A1GP in December (post 22) and in January for the Dutch 24 Hours (post 23). You have a wonderful circuit in Dubai and I wish you all the best with the racing there going forward.

A huge and warm welcome to ten-tenths.

Hi Ron, Welcome aboard the wonderful (well, at times) world of ten-tenths.

I was also at the FIA GT meeting last November and the 24 hours in January. Hope to marshal there again some time in the future.

And as Ty said, what happened to our lifts?

Welcome!

A few questions...

Does the COC (Chief Steward) wear a Turban or Kafi'ye in desert events?

When a competitor is brought before the race committee over an infraction is shari'a law applied?

Are women permitted to marshal??

Is the beer served cold at the post-race social?

...enquiring minds want to know..

Yes, women are permitted to marshal. I was the Observer (thats post chief to you lot across the pond!) at post 19 for the FIA GT meeting last December, and I had 3 woman trainee flag marshals.

As for the beer, it was flowing well each evening at the FIA GT meeting Didn't see much at the 24 hour meeting, but I do believe that it was on sale.

Thanks Mike - Though my post was somewhat light-spirited, I've often wondered about the conduct of events in the desert nations...seems marshalling is more similar there than different from Europe and N. America.
Cheers,
Dennis
