Public transport to circuits - your tips

As I don't own a car, I've done this a few times. I can add a couple of tips. Most of the time I use a bicycle too, to get from the train station.

Brands Hatch - Train to Swanley, from where ever you choose. Then ride, approx 30-40 minutes to the main entrance. A cab ride is around £10-15.

Lydden Hill - Train to Shepherds Well, then ride approximately 15-20 minutes to the circuit. The approx two hour trian journey is a killer though.

Donington Park - Train to Nottingham, then catch the 'Airport bus' (few quid) from the city centre which goes to West Midlands airport. Make sure you catch the bus all the way to the DHL at the end of the airport, then walk approx 2-3 minutes to the track (you can't miss it).

Its EAST Midlands Airport! A new rail station will make Donington easier to get to in a couple of years. For Oulton Park try Winsford station.

Oops, knew I should have looked that up before trusting my memory

I would like to check out Oulton Park. How far from the train station to the circuit?

viamichelin.com does a handy walking distance point to point thingy which might help out with station to circuit questions. just change the settings from car to walk, and it'll tell you how long it'll take too.

marvellous modern technology.

oops... well it worked in rural spain so i rather naively assumed it wouldn't have a problem with footballers paradise

alternative with donington is the airport bus from loughborough station, if that still runs.

Like Zac150 I don't own a car so public transport at the moment is important for me.
When I went to brands hatch last though, the taxi from Swanley station to the main entrance was £16 so double that then you have your taxi fare!

I'm looking at Snetterton for the 5th of August and the nearest station is only a few minutes walk away but getting the train there looks like fun at the moment.

Silverstone was £20 taxi from Banbury station for the FIA GT race. But I had to go from there was track repair near Northampton which would of been far nearer and Cheaper. But we had 4 people for that day so it wasn't too bad.

Santa Pod was £30 taxi from Northampton but again if you have 4 people it works out quite good.

Trains last stopped at Eccles Road (the local station to Snetterton) on a Sunday around the mid 60s.Nearest station open when I last checked was Attleborough, but I went there once in the 80s and there were no taxis to be found.

Yeah I tried the National Rail Journey planner to Snetterton one Sunday. I recall it's recommendation was something like catch 10:30pm train somewhere, sleep on the platform, then catch the first train in the morning. Needless to say, I gave up I still haven't been!

i think attleborough is still the closest, but you'd probably want to prearrange a taxi. the one time i went there by train i went to norwich and had a friend pick me up from there, so i cheated

Interesting leaflet came with this months(September) 'Motor Sport' magazine.Offers free rail travel from any belgian station to Verviers then free bus to Spa for the GP. Why can't british organizers fix something like that?
