Le Mans 2009
I guess as no one has started the thread I had better get things underway. Is anyone planning to attend next year's Le Mans 24 Hours?
There is a very good chance I will be there..... |

Not sure...
I've been going since 1979, but this year was the least enjoyable by far. For a start Audi annexed the whole of Garage Rouge where we've parked nearly every year and we ended up on Beausejour, which would be in another county to the village if it were in England! Errr - Actually, that was really my only gripe - The ACO make it very difficult to get parking close to the circuit (and not everyone wants to camp). Maybe I'll be back next year, but maybe I'll put my feet up in front of the TV and watch it on Eurosport/Motors. Cheers. |

True, Audi did not have ALL of it, but we were directed to the foul Garage Bleu on arrival on Friday evening and I never saw Garage Rouge tickets on sale on the website (it simply went from Available Soon to Sold Out!) - How did you get yours?
It was a good race, I'm just grouchy because a load of Audi hangers on got preferential treatment and it would've been just as good a race on TV... I don't go to GPs partly because they're 'hospitality' driven, it's a shame to see Le Mans going the same way - Just witness the way large areas of what were once excellent viewing areas for the Enceinte Generales are now taken over by expensive stands. This was without a doubt the best LM in my recent memory, if the closest parking was in Paris and I had to finish the rest of journey on a pogo stick I can assure you I'd still be there, long may my obsession continue! |

In my view, that's waned considerably in recent years. My obsession's continued for many a year, but I'm going to think seriously about next year's race. Cheers. |

As usual the discussion on the ferry home is about plans for next year.
A few of the chaps are finding it harder to spare a "week away with the lads" due to family and business commitments, so 2009 might just be a Friday-Sunday trip for the first time since our First Time in 1997. This might also encourage a few returnees to the trip who've also found it hard to get a week off. My Hopes/Wishes for the 2009 Race: Aston enter an LMP1 car (or 2) as a factory team. The diesels get taken down a couple of notches so they are no quicker than the petrol cars. Surely a Porsche LMP1 entry is too much to hope for. Toyota engines in the Dome coupe? An LMP1 with a version of the Corvette engine in it (run by Pratt & Miller instead of GT1?). A GT2 Corvette to add more variety to that class. |

I'd settle for any of the above, but would also like to see Penske - even with a P2 Porsche and let's have WR back - with whatever initials they might now run under! I've lost track of where we are with GTs - will it be GT2 and GT3 replacing GT1 and GT2? Anything that brings greater participation is welcome - there's currently too little variety in the GT classes imho |

I will consult my diary but with no classic in 2009 I think it will take a major change of plan and several wild horses to stop me being there in 2009.

I'm there in spirit already (!) and will certainly be there in body in just under a year's time for my 21st visit, despite my problems this year (see TT's meet thread).

I fully intend on being there to complete my first week of racing at Le Mans (7th visit in case you were wondering!)
