Le Mans 1976/77/78 Info Please
I'm after some information people. First of all I should stress that this isn't for any competition I'm entering and nor is it going to make me any money! I have a website correspondent who is seeking information about a car he owns with a Le Mans history.
The car is a Porsche which was once owned by Claude Haldi. He ran it at Le Mans in each of the years 1976, 1977 and 1978. I'm told that in 1976 it ran as #58 and was driven by Cheneviere, Zbinder and Buehrer. This car, entered by G.V.A. Porsche Club Romand was a late DNF with valve trouble..... In 1977, it ran as #59 with Servanin, Hummel and Ferrier and was entered under the Schiller Racing Team banner. It DNF'd again in the 14th hour with gearbox trouble. Finally, I am told that in 1978 the car (still owned by Haldi) was leased to Gahinat (Haldi actually drove a Haberthur entry and failed to finish) and was driven by Gahinat, Briaroine and Gussi. In 78, there was a 934 #62 which was driven by Christian Bussi, Jean-Claude Briavoine and "Segolen" which was entered by "Segolen" and finished 17th. Perhaps Segolen was actually Gahinat? In short though, if anyone does have any info, I would appreciate it. Even better - anyone have photos of any of these cars? |

Just to say (before anyone else suggests the link) I've found the stuff (inclusing one photo) at
Le Mans Legend What an excellent site! (Thanks Nordic for the link in the Ferrari thread). |

From the excellent "Time and Two Seats": page 105 Pseudonyms:
"Segolen" = Andre Gahinet (F) Double checked spelling: * there's no é in Andre * Gahinet not Gahinat |

Ah good man Gert - I suspected that was the case. I gather "Segolen" means "Bravo" as well......

Thanks to everyone who has replied to Ayse's post. I am the person who has asked for this help. Much of the information here I already have but there is some new info as well that I am very grateful to have so again, to all, thank you.
I am also looking for info and pictures on other races this car has run in Europe from 1976-1978. If anyone is willing to help I would be happy to post the races this car has competed in. Here are a few pictures from the 1985 12 Hours of Sebring race where this car finished 12th overall and 5th in GTO.Very poor quality photos but interesting that a car almost 10 years old was still competative..typical 934/935 |

Welcome Van. Good to see you made it here.
Once the likes of SL and Nordic have rooted through their extensive piccy collections, I may move this thread to the "historics", so that the learned gents there can give us the benefit of their knowledge too. |

Ayse,
Thank you ,I appreciate the welcome. It would be great to get this car in the loop with those that have knowledge and pictures of the DRM , European Hill Climb and other race series in Europe from 76-78. I have Claude Haldi's telephone number and the author John Starkey has spoken to him but was not able to get much information. A big part of the fun for me restoring this 934/935 is the fact finding mission..whenever you find a bit of information on a race or a picture , it is like finding treasure....plus you get to meet a lot of great people along the way Thanks again to all, Van |

I have pictures of the Le Mans race of 1976 1977 and 1978 in my Le Mans 1923-1992 book (Moity) and one in the 1978 Yearbook (aldo Moity) too.
Unfortunatly I don't have a scanner anymore |

gert....my scanner died a loong time ago and I never got another. Maybe when, and if, you have time you can look in the book if it is not too much trouble and see if any pictures or info pertaining to this car is covered? If so I will have to add to my ever growing collection of auto related books
The car was # 58 in the 76 Le Mans driven by Cheneviere/ Zbinder/ Buehrer, in the 1977 running the car was # 59 driven by Servanin/Hummel/Ferrier and the 1978 running has already been discussed. I have gotten none of this striaght from Haldi. I have just found various postings showing the chassis number 930 670 0171 attributed to these entries. I would say the 1978 entry would be the one most in question for me , though 1976 seems a bit vuage too...I think it is also possible that the # 60 car in 1978 could be the 0171 car as it was a Schiller entry and Haldi raced under Schiller's banner quite frequently. However, Haldi is listed as a driver on the #62 "Segolen" car . Does anyone know the chassis number of the HCC Ski Wear # 69 car that ran the 1976 Le Mans with Haldi driving ?....going back to trace a race cars history from almost 30 years ago certainly proposes some challenges |

I'll send the scans tomorrow morning (I'm very tired no, must go to bed), please let me know if you already have scans from '78 LM annual...
regarding chassis number maybe it's worth to contact ACO, after the "pesage" they issue a sheet with the car's fiche, also Christian Bussi, who drove the car in '78 was recently involved with Perrier Perspective Racing, maybe it'b be worth try to look for him |

Starkey's book has a lot of mistakes in it. John is well aware of this car and has actually spoken to Haldi about it within the last few months. The 0171 was also a Schiller entry many times plus it was actually owned by Haldi.
That is the problem. It is so hard to trace the history of these cars and when you do you will often find out new contradictory information. If you look at the 930 770 0958 car of the Heimrath's , Starkey has the history of that car crossed with the 930 670 0171 car.....he is working on the third book and there will be many corrections as information comes in . |
