Dunlop Rover Turbo / Tomcat Vento Cars

Hi all.

A couple of years ago I purchased a Roversport Turbo Tomcat that was last raced in the Super Coupe Cup.

I know a few people who still race these now in the LMA Euro Saloons series.

anyhow, i'm after finding out where as many of the cars are today and what if any series thay are racing in.

Also any pictures/programmes etc relating to the 34 odd cars that raced from 94 to 96 in the Dunlop cup and then on into the Tomcat Vento Challenge.

Cheers in advance

I think I have the programme from the 1994 Silverstone Gold Cup meeting, at which the Rover Turbos raced, as well as some others when they were in the Tomcat/Vento Challenge.

Duke made videos of the championship called Sporting Rovers. They are very good viewing.

I two years but can't remember which ones they are.

I'm sure you could find copies somewhere.

Steve Govett drives a 220 Turbo in the BARC-SE centre saloons - I presume it is an ex-Tomcat Cup car - he`s entered for Brands this Saturday on the Britcar meeting bill.

yes Gary Prebbles car is the one that rover used to develop the tomcat series it was also driven by tony pond.

It also one of the quickest rovers you will see in any championship,it seems to have phenomenal front end grip in the wet and dry it is one very special car!!!

Ask any of the leading contenders in the combe championship!

Greystone should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Hi all,

I've just joined the forum after my brother put me on to this thread.

I have a Tomcat from the Dunlop and Tomcat/Vento challenge series. I bought it late 1999 from Andy Thompson who had been running it in the Tomcat/Vento challenge. My brother and I used it for sprinting and hillclimbing for several years and I did a couple of races at Lydden with it in 2002. Unfortunately due to family commitments it has not been used since then.

I believe that it may have been Martin Short's car from the original series as I have wheels with Short and Shorty written on them, although this is obviously not definitive proof.

I don't know what it's future is going to be. It is still in reasonably good condition but I can't make up my mind whether to use it again or sell it and go rallying.

Cheers

Hi and Welcome to the Forum!

Really interested in hearing more about your car mate.

I've never thought about the Sprint/Hillclimb scene for the Tomcat, was it succesful in that sport?

I'd imagine its slightly cheaper and less accident prone too, which sounds interesting to me.............

Where are you based, and do you have any pics you could mail me?

Regards

Dave,

I have e-mailed you regarding your questions. If you reply to the enclosed email address with your email address I will send you a couple of pictures.

Also, if anyone is going to Brands this saturday my brother is racing in the BARC SE races - Vauxhall Astra no 80. Feel free to pop round the paddock and say hello.

Cheers

Andrew

Hi Eddie. I have managed to collect every single programme from every event since I started marshalling! They are now starting to escape from my spare bedroom. Without even really looking I have found 6 programmes from 1999/2000 featuring the Tom Cats &/or Ventos. Also some entries in other saloon series. You are more than welcome to take them off my hands free, gratis & for nothing. It saves me a trip to recyclling centre!!! PM me if interested.

Rover 220s were excellent racing in the early 90s, as were the 216s. Big grids and close racing.

We almost certainly have programmes from then which I will try to find. Might also have some old Best of British Motorsport on video - anyone remember that? Used to be on Saturday at noon then they moved it to variously 2am Tuesday night, 4.30am on Thursdays, etc. Killed it off with the resultant low viewing numbers, the gits... great programme.

It might take me a while to find them.

What is it you want the programmes for? Just the start list?

Hi,

For 2006 the Classic Touring Car Racing Club are adding Pre-93 Touring Cars to their merry throng of championships. Alongside Pre-66, Pre-74, Pre-83, and Classic Thunder.

There is an official announcement due on this, and another newsworthy partnership in the next few days.

www.classictouringcars.com

Pre-93 is intended to be a good competitive home for this sort of kit.

Good luck!

Stacy

Can you give us any more info, Stacy, or will we have to wait? What regs will it be run to? I was aiming for Classic Thunder, but the Astra might be more suited to this instead.
