We've just replaced our DVD recorder (which caught fire!)with a Panasonic DVD/Hard Drive Recorder for £240 from Costco - this will record over 80 hours of coverage!
Edited to say: I also don't have to pay Sky an additional subscription for having Sky+! |

Just picked this up from Motors TV, they covering the WHOLE of the 24 hours LIVE! And scrutineering, and practice too!!!!
Wow! Finally someone's taking the race seriously!!!! I'll have to make sure my overalls are good and clean, as I will be marshalling there on post 106!!! Steve |

One negative is that this will probably draw me away from Autosport Radio Le Mans which I truly love

I wouldn't be surprised if Motors used their feed.

However the web for RLM, use Sky for Motors. It is going to take some effort to record both if, say, you are out of the country! |

From what was said on DSC the other day the intention is to use the existing Eurosport commentary team (Martin Haven, Mark Cole and David Leslie) of course the other option is move your PC next to the TV so you can have picture from Motors and commentry from RLM.

Personally I think I would rather have the Eurosport commentry, RLM is good but Eurosport's David Leslie and Martin Haven really know their stuff too, Mark Cole isnt bad either although IMO he can become annoying at times.

It really is fantastic to see the amount of sportscar coverage Motors TV will run this year.
Better still, the quality of the station seems to be improving, they are going from strength to strength. Hopefully it will not be long before the station is available to more viewers across Europe, on more platforms. Who knows, a few years down the line we could have some kind of online subscription service. Credit to the ACO for linking up with Motors TV and improving their media facilities. BTW, I wonder if the RLM feed could be used for the late night coverage? |

Who's that guy who gives English commentary on Motors while SPEED or FOX is on commercial? I like him too. Looks like as long as it's not Carlton Kirby things should be good... |

Surely they would need more than one commentry team if they are running non stop?
Martin Haven, Mark Cole and David Leslie do the day time & RLM do the night would make sense. |

I was just browsing Planet Lemans and see that Motors TV have announced further Le Mans programmes for the month of May starting in less than an hour with the Porsche v Jaguar battle of 1988.
Details here on Planet LeMans. |

I can't comment on Eurosports commentators, but I won't hear a word said about my pal Paul Truswell on RLM. A great commentator with an amazing in-depth knowledge of sports car racing. You need guys like him to cut through the blatant commercialism of race commentary these days. The only thing I really miss from RLM is Ian Titchmarsh. Truswell and Titchmarsh are by far the best pair of commentators I've ever had the pleasure to listen to. Martin Haven is a great commentator, but in his RLM days he just didn't know when to shut up and let others have a say... Just watch the 1990 RLM video and you'll know what I mean...... |

Why not? There are 24h feeds on many sats, but you have to wait until one hour before the race starts to search the net for the feeds.

Of course, we all become commentators because we think we can do it better... and we all want to talk ALL of the time... Except Trussers. How he manages to stay in the booth for about 30 hurs without a break (ANY break!!) AND manage to know when every car last pitted, will next pit, who is in it etc I will never know... By the way, who won in 1990?? |

But don't take my comments as criticism, please.... That 1990 RLM video is, to my mind, the greatest motorsport video I have ever seen. Its got everything. And that is in no small part to your involvement in the commentary team. Some parts are absolutely priceless, your strangled cry of "Its a Jaguar one-two" as poor Jesus Pareja parks the Brun Porsche was one of them, as was the reaction of Titchmarsh and Hoy as you trampled all over their conversation with the "Big bold move by Jan Lammers......". You see, so good I know most of it off by heart! So my comments were certainly well-intentioned.... So, if it were up to me, I certainly advise you not to learn to shut up....... |

Well done MotorsTV and ACO, but where is the advertising for this coverage?!!!!! I don't think that the event itself needs promoting, but to increase interest in LMS would probably help the sport.
It is nice to wander round Silverstone and hardly see a soul, but I think it would be better if the LMS races were better attended, if not this, then next year. Sports car racing is the most exciting to watch trackside and on TV but not enough people know it. I would not like to see another F1 or Japan GT where only the big players and sponsors stand a chance when they invest the big bucks, but I do not think this could happen. More and better publicity, would it help? Anyway, great news for me!!!!!! It took 40 years of waiting to get to my gods heaven, been there twice in a row. Can't go this year:-( I am now so much happier because I will be able to see it all the way through again. I know it is not the same as trackside, but with a few others will try to get some of the atmosphere. I have just concluded negotiations with neighbours to have 5 tents and 11 gentlemen in my, sorry our, back garden from Wednesday night. Also negotiated with wife that apart from ablutions and the fridge no entry to the house. An old garden shed has been internally clad with 15 cm of polysterene to move the tv /pcs to after 10pm. They do know that bbqs on friday and saturday may be a bit late, but they are welcome to join in if they bring most of their own beer mountain. I have also agreed to no fireworks after 10 pm. I think this will help my general depression over missing june this year. Good luck to all who are going and commiserations to those who are not. Hope to see you next year! P.S. I have emailed jeremy Clarkson asking why not get an Audi R10, DIESEL, on the top gear test track. Maybe if more do the same it may help publicise LMS, or is that too tacky? |

sorry to hear you won't be with us this year
but the way you're going to live it is probably the best alternative way may I suggest a kind of "motor sounds" CD for the background ? |
