Maybe Joest can actually get a car or two. The article makes it known there's interest in them, so I guess it's up to a team with the knowledge of running the cars. Joest would be that team, but do they have the funds?

With Audi quitting, where does this leave Joest?

Joest should do a 2017 NAEC program with LMP2.

Rebellion is running NAEC. And has an all star lineup. They are simply renting the shop or similar arrangement in the US to keep the car etc. The purpose of Joest running NAEC would to be to keep the talent in the team and grow it. They can do that against NAEC competitors. |

Whilst ELMS on the face of it does not have the pedigree that NAEC does, ELMS will help an entry into the Le Mans 24 hours, whilst 4 races in IMSA probably will not. In 2015 the ELMS P2 cars were mixing it with the WEC P2 cars for class wins, and in 2014 the ELMS cars were 1-2 at Le Mans. So whilst ELMS doesn't have the Daytona 24 or the events that we all love, it does have good competition. Given the late stage at which Joest have been forced to plan their 2017 season, and their current base location, an ELMS and/or GT3 entry would be a good bet for at least one year before a return to the top class can be found. And remember they have run a GT3 car before - and won with it too. |

Agreed, all articles go back to that somewhat ambiguous quote from Dürheimer in the Autocar article. I'm still convinced he was talking about the 2016 cars as these are at least race ready, even though it is still a long shot for anyone to come and race them.

Yeah but the original Joest story was running the 2017 car. All the quotes about how they feel the '17 car would be the one to beat, seems like that's the topic, not this season's R18.

Yeah that one brought a wee tear to the eye. Another incredible showing of class between the P1 teams again.

Apparently this is what the 2017 Audi would have looked like. |

The more I look at it the more it looks like they just took a 2012-ish F1 car design and slapped a roof and wheelarches on it.

That's what a bunch of late Group C cars were. Can see the F1 roots in it for sure.

Still so ugly, that cockpit looks like an after thought. I can't see much difference from just a quick glance to this year's car. Maybe someone can do a more detailed analysis?

I see several influences from the original abortive R15 from 2009. To be honest, I can't see how stuff that didn't work as well as intended in 2009 would work now, especially with less powerful engines and the "lift and coast" bullcrap.

Question for those who have this opinion: what do you think they were doing to save fuel in Group C races, especially if they couldn't turn the boost down in cars that had no turbos? Or lean out the fuel mixture any further? They were attacking the corners but lifting at the end of the straights.
Also, aero is aero. It doesn't care what the engine does, it just cares how fast the car is moving through the air. Aero philosophy has nothing to do with how the driving style is influenced by the power unit. |

It's why IMSA's GTP was a much better series from that standpoint. |
