Friday qualifying...
Why is the field so spread out?
We have almost a 5 second gap between top and bottom! Poor showing from Montoya Pizzonia and Mclaren Last edited by Sodemo; 18 Apr 2003 at 12:54. |

I suppose this Webber guy is for real then huh? Two races in a row now he has been impressive.
Toyota are struggling quite a lot though. Their 4th place target may be a bit out of reach. Last but not least; why would Ferrari even need a new car? |

I would suspect that MS is just "a little" aggrivated at the position he is in. If he gets loose this weekend I dont think he will be caught. IMO it will look a little like last years races as far as Ferrari is concerned anyway.

Great performance from Webber whilst the Ferrari's & Williams are on the pace although i'm suprised how far back the McLaren's are but tommorrow's the day that count's & i would be suprised to see them down that far on Saturday afternoon.

Fridays are losing meaning more and more as the weekends go by. Eventually, I feel teams will begin to just run with heavy fuel in the car to get the best set up for Saturday and treat Friday qualifying as some sort of practice. But I digress...
Great to see the BAR's close in performance too. It shows where the cars are and that the drivers are pretty close over one lap. Hopefully they can repeat this tomorrow when it counts. JV feels this may be his best shot at a podium. |

I'm surprised that the McLarens and Renaults haven't gone better. Good showing for Webber again, this one-shot qualifying seems to suit him. We might see the Renaults setting up for qualifying tomorrow as they did in Malaysia, and it should be interesting to see what McLaren decide to do about their strategy, although I reckon they'll go for a race-oriented setup and compromise their grid positions. That seems to have worked for them so far this season. |

As a middle order team, obviously Ferrari must have been running very light on fuel today!

3 tenths up in one session after being creamed all season so far doesn't say much Ralfs Girl . Anyway, Imola is THE circuit that Ralf shines at so if he doesn't beat JPM here he's screwed.

It's nice to see Jaguar and BAR have obviously improved.
What's with Da Matta's time, 2 second behind? |

I suppose Ralf supporters have been lying low recently after some of their man's poor showings. But, he did well today on a circuit he has a sueprb record at, so credit where it's due. I cna see the Williams guys being on the front 3 rows if they run a standard strategy.

DaMatta messed up big time in the first sector. It was ugly. He was screwed from the first corner. OP was not very much better. Toyota is having issues.

Not bad, but nothing special. He seems to be good at qualifying, but he should try to get some more points during the races. |
