vw_nut should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Race of champions

Ok all I thought someone should start this thread, so may as well be me. I really want to marshal this event, any clues or hints as whose organising it?

Chris Hobson is not involved this year, I've already asked.

I marshalled the first one held in Wembley Stadium. The marshals were organised by someone to do with rallying. Sorry I can't remember who though.

I seem to recall hearing that there was an upper age limit, and a lower limit on how photogenic the people volunteering could be.

Both of them rule me out!

Would that have been Ian Stevens from Goodwood?

Ian Stevens was there but the chief marshal was Barry Guess.

I got selected so they weren't that picky! I believe they dropped the age / photogenic criteria owing to the outcry. With a few exceptions, we were a bunch of mingers.

I have just spoken to the Chief marshal for the RoC. He will be looking for around 15 marshals for the event. His contact details are below, HOWEVER, before you volunteer please take the following into account:

1. This is a “For Television” event.
2. It is in the Olympic stadium, so parking, transport, accommodation, is going to be difficult (and may be costly)
3. Unless you are dealing with an incident you will be stood back from the track – out of sight of the cameras
4. They will be long days with some gaps between activities
5. Allocations will take into account whether you are able to help with the pre-event set-up and shake-down events.

If you want to be considered please send an e-mail too Barry Guess – barrygcharlie@aol.com headed RoC marshalling.

Barry is also looking for a couple of people to act as start line marshals – as in other RoC events they have to be “Televisual” – i.e. young, and of an appearance that works well on TV. (I have already been ruled out for this job!). If you have startline experience and want to be considered please indicate on your e-mail.

Please do not start a chain of sexist, ageist or any other prejudice remarks. If you are lucky enough to be selected say “Thank You”, if not, then I am afraid you will have to either spectate or watch it from what will probably be the best seat in the house – your lounge and TV set!.
