Photographers Gloves?

I thought I'd ask here given there's a lot more cold-weather shooters here than in Australia! Admittedly it doesn't get as cold here in Oz, but it gets cold enough, plus wind chill etc, does anyone use any kind of gloves whilst shooting?

I've seen some Lowepro ones on Ebay a while ago, with special rubberised fingertips etc, any opinions? Should I go for the special windstopper type material?

Any experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Try fishermans gloves - normally made from neoprene, so they are nice and warm, and they have flip up finger and thumb tips so you can do fiddly things. Also they have grips on the tips (like the poetry?).

I tend to use my alpinestars go-karting gloves, they're pretty managable.

I bought some cheap inner gloves from a motorcycle shop which worked surprisingly well. They're supposed to be worn inside bike gloves but even on their own they were thick enough for decent warmth whilst being thin enough to use the controls. Cost a fiver.

i try wearing gloves at football in the winter but for some reason i just can't get along with them, they invariably make me feel like i've lost some control over what i'm doing and so i usually take them off and end up with my hands up my sleeves popping in and out as conditions demand.

i've just returned from working at the turin winter paralympics and thought i would need gloves there for sure. turned out the weather was positively springlike and the main problem i had was blindness from the sun bouncing off the snow...first day i wandered around the biathlon in a daze from the sunlight and from readings i'd never seen before from a camera. gloves went in bag that day and didn't come out again.

MECHANIX brand gloves are great, good for film (if you still use that), non-static and grippy, light and inexpensive, about $30 here in US

Try shooter gloves. two types those that flip the fingers back & those that don't. I know it sounds silly but it is the eaisest wat to describe them. happy hunting. (pun intended)

Cheers guys for the info. I might have to do a rush job on it tomorrow before I head down to Tasmania to shoot. Ring around some fishing stores etc.

I've got a pair of Sealskinz gloves. I think they're fantastic as they're waterproof, breathable and are thermal. The best bit is they're pretty thin considering the protection they offer and have extra tacky 'pads' on the palm sides which are great for gripping your camera gear. They only time I have to take them off is when removing/repalacing a microdrive as the slot is very narrow

They're £24 in most outdoor stores like Blacks, Cotswold etc

I use 3mm neoprene Henderson divers gloves. They're a little bulky, but as long as they fit tightly I can manage most tasks

(like opening beer cans while waiting for the light.. )

Big fan of neoprene as they stay warm when wet
