Why on earth did Ward...
Enter the 1959 USGP at Sebring in a midget? Did he think it was good? Did the promoters have something to do with it? What was he thinking, exaclty?

Did he think it was going to win? From what I hear, he was quite boastful about, thinking his midget would blow away the F1 competitors.
After qualifying dead last, he did earn the respect of the Grand Prix drivers for the way he threw the midget around the track however. |

Ward won a Formula Libre race at Lime Rock with the midget that summer, but Sebring being a different circuit from Lime Rock and his rivals a different calibre from Chuck Daigh in a 250F Maserati, George Constantine in an Aston Martin sports car and John Fitch, it all turned sour in the end. Would've been nice, though...
