Racing version of Lotus Exige
In the Dutch Supercar Challenge (A series with cars like the Marcos, Porsches, BMW M3's, etcetera ). A newcomer in the series is a Lotus Exige. The seat is placed in the middle of the car like in the McLaren F1. Is this true   , where is the gearbox placed? Any pictures?

Sounds like one of the cars from the one-make Elise series that ran in the UK a couple of years back.

Why is the seat placed in the middle? Is is because of weight balancing or safety reasons?

Weight distibution I believe. Not sure what they did about the gearbox but surely it's only a matter of moving the linkage to one side.

seriously though, the car has a transversly mounted rover k series engine and gearbox, the type found in mg zr and zs models etc probaly has a cable operated gear change so wouldnt have thought the problem of moving the gear shift would have been a trouble at all. for info just type in lotus elise in yahoo, youll get loads of enthusiast pages |
