I think there should only be penalties for not appearing in the post-LM period. Missing pre-LM races is normal. Anyway I think if the FIA loosened off the crash test passing requirements for two weeks prior the start of the season it would help a lot. But when have they ever relaxed anything...

As for Kolles vs Rebellion and the 'lost advantage', I don't think speed really matters at LM, but rather reliability again. And the swiss have two bullets in the gun. Well at least the engine will be the same for both parties.

In any case I'm sure both are more looking forward to decent-ish overall placement due to factory retirements rather than the pointless sub trophy.

If the tub and the nose box is the same, Rebellion shouldn't need to do another crash test, unless the rear crash structure needs to be re-crash tested.

Audi had to re-do a crash test when the modified the R18's front end for this season (bodywork mods probably lead to a nosebox change), but there has been nothing said for the rear crash structure, on on the Audi and most LMP1s is different this year.

I think that it's just Oreca is taking forever adapting the car to the AER V6.

I wish they had just opted to do the AER modding for one car and kept the old Toyota for another. Would've kept the team running in the first two races, even with only one chassis, as well as offered engine diversity & possible performance variations. The Toyota car would've been the 'safe option'

Then after Le Mans possibly upgrade the engine for AER in the second car. You know, during the million year summer break of sitting around.

I suggested the same sort of thing last year with running the old Lola alongside R-One. Cheap and secure

That was ACO, not FIA... besides the reserve entry EE chassis was already at the circuit "just in case" at the time when the Lola was disqualified and they took their place. It wasn't really that relaxed.

All this makes the post-LM gap seem like even more of a farce. Those final 5 races come thick and fast, and it only pushes back teams development and planning for the following season.

Looks like we might see some drivers get announced today.

Daniel Abt is certainly ready to announce something - https://twitter.com/Daniel_Abt/statu...840896?lang=en

Seems like it will be Beche/Heidfeld/Prost and Kraihamer/Abt/Imperatori according to AutoHebdo.

Bellichi is doing a full season of the new TCR series so that seemed to be a big hint he was out at Rebellion. It also sounds like Imperatori is not currently planning to race for KCMG so this all fits.

I thought Leimer was out of his Japanese drive? Has he fallen through the cracks?

Can only agree. If last year wasnt an indication with Lotus and Dome, then surely this year is with both Rebellion and Nissan missing two very important races by not being ready in time. Atleast in Rebellions case surely if the season had ended one month earlier they would have had a bigger chance to be ready in time.

I'm starting to think a winter-serie isnt so bad afterall, all they need to do is to add Daytona and Sebring to the shedule and the season is compleat.

Looks like a Far East backer didn't come up with the goods for Leimer so his Super Formula seat fell through. I don't know if he planned to do a duel campaign with Rebellion or put all his eggs in the Super Formula basket. But it's fair to say it hasn't worked out well for him.

Bunch of races loosely slotted all the way from ~ September to June isn't gonna fix anything, only worsen the preparation times and flow of tings. And the American enduros have all been lost completely.

The post LM gap pushes development back? I disagree. That should be the time most teams take the make changes for later in the year and begin steps toward the next year. It is too big, though. They could do another European round like Monza or Imola before Nurburgring.

It's confirmed.

From Autosport: Abt and Imperatori to drive the 2nd Rebellion alongside Kraihamer, with Heidfeld once again joining Prost and Beche in the No. 12.

Yes, I didn't realize how much work was involved due to the switching to a turbo engine that has much different cooling requirements than the old v8 does. I do think part of the delay may be down to how much of a workload Oreca has as well.

Ah I didn't realise they'd moved to a turbo, which explains it. I haven't kept up with Rebellions efforts and had assumed they'd make the first race of the year.

Shame, because it'd have been nice to see them against Kolles.

The biggest 'issue' for me is not the lack of Toyota, but the lack of something more exciting than AER. Even the Judd, the bigger one, would've been exciting. And quite possibly now secured company's presence on the grid with spec-LMP2 coming up...

Anyway, Kolles has so far done around 35 laps today, with the best time five seconds off from Rebellion's B12/60 fast lap last year... so I'm sure the swiss are more than confident
