Well, now that the CLM has become a serious competitor, it has become a bit more interesting. Two more cars, and we'd have a decent subcategory.

Obviously they have to say someting positive in their press releases.

Just as Patrick Huisman used to do after 9th place positions in Porsche Supercup

But it's rather telling how only few days after winning the said trophy they were discussing how they cannot confirm LMP1 beyond 2016.

as mentioned before, sounds like Rebellion are threatening to quit LMP1 privateer unless the ACO gove them a very significant rules break that allows them to close the gap to the manufacturers, which realistically needs to be in the form of slowing down the manufacturer teams which are just way too fast, otherwsie a driver will be killed soon I fear.

I dont buy them being too fast. I think the other classes need speeding up so the gap isnt so huge. These guys are professionals (mostly). Kolles is competitive, but only with Kaffer. Trummer is over a second slower at times.

The speed of the LMP1s isn't an issue. The difference in speed between the fastest and slowest cars in the race might be though. The slowest GTE Ams are 20% slower than the fastest LMP1s. That is a massive difference.

The gap itself doesn't matter, they are never ever gonna pass the factories on track by speed. Never. Even in the first years of diesels the gap was always impossible to conquer, even if the time differences might have numerically been smaller.

What has actually changed is
- There are more factory cars, and they are far more reliable now, so the chance for higher overall position is smaller
- The concept looks unappealing with so little privateer participants, unlike few years ago
- Customer market is dead because the cars are more expensive and cannot run anywhere else than WEC anymore
- In the past they were still able to win overall in LMS/ALMS races the factories chose to ignore

Those are the real issues shooting it all down

I agree with all that.
I just meant the performance difference may be significant from a safety point of view. LMP1 continues to disappear into the distance while everything else stands still.

Well, they are slowing them (factories) down, while speeding up LMP2 and LMGTE soon.

Anyway, in VLN/N24, the pace difference between GT3 and the lowest of low touring/production/hobby car classes is even greater... and at freaking Nordschleife.

I have done some lap time analysis across the whole WEC season so far. I will put the results on here after this weekend. Exciting times, I am sure you will agree!

Alright.

I think % difference between the fastest Hybrid and fastest Non Hybrid on each circuit would be interesting to see (quali laps & fastest race lap & completed lap total in the race), especially if it went beyond just this year. The evolution of pace.

What a pathetic showing at Bahrain. Yeah they did get the #13 "winning the class" and 2nd place in champ sub trophy, but losing to bunch of P2s again and only after Kolles had their own dramas. And it wasn't even AER issues this time (I think, judging by reports) but electrics for #13 and brakes for #12.

It's baffling, the first year for the Oreca was much more convincing... alright, the engine mod and long hiatus between Bahrain 14 and LM 15 didn't help, and they are not particularly doing any development now, but still. Now if ever is time to do what I suggested earlier, 24 or 32 hour race simulation tests at Ricard or wherever. Pace is manageable, but get that reliability fixed.

Will they upgrade the car in the winter? They must. Or else they end up being beaten by the LMP2 guys again.

Probably just some aero bits and pieces.

The only reason they keep getting beaten by LMP2 is because of reliability, and other general screwing up (they're bit rusty, like Strakka)

I happened to discuss this subject with Nick yesterday at the "Les Suisses au Mans" event at the Speedy Garage. He is still expected to race for Rebellion Racing next year. Redellion Racing actually confirmed yesterday that they were sticking with the same driver line-up and same car package. Nick's injury will hopefully be healed by the time the 2016 season starts.

They don't need to change the line up. To beat Nissan LMP1 they don't need to do nothing in fact. A bit silly? Of course. But, after all, it’s meant to be show business, isn’t it?

At Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie Genéve 2016

It's a weird show car with both #12 and #13 plates and obviously the old Lola but in beautiful metallic red of the 2015 #13... but without the copycat Porsche stripes. I take it as positive sign for the racing colors.

- No update on tire choices yet (keeping Mics or switch to Dunlop)
- Focus on reliability, engine and brakes before the season starts
- They will get some testing and changes done before Prologue

I don't think it was ever under consideration to change tires. My understanding was that the Dunlop tests were for a different reason(but don't remember now)

Next generation LMP2 tire, but Dunlop are open to returning to LMP1 if there's a demand for it.

It would make sense to change tires actually, to potentially have advantage against the factories if the other mark works better on certain conditions (like the JMW Dunlop and Falken usually worked better on wet weather). To be the sole guy running something else can have it's benefits. It's not like Rebellion has any other way to have saying against the factories, other than to hope they blow up.

Would be interesting to have Mics on say #13 and Dunlops on #12. That way you could see the real performance difference.

But yeah I doubt they actually change anything.

2013 was horrible for LMP1 in WEC so it wasn't really good-good days to my mind anymore, but at least they still were able to run it in ALMS.

In any case, Rebellion loves to reminiscent the past, the old Lolas not only get shown in these old photos a lot but they bring them to all kinds of conventions and media events. This is how you should treat your retired machinery.

I like your idea of splitting the tire choices between the #13 and #12 but I don't have big expectations of that happening. Dunlop, currently, has very shitty wet weather tires on LMP2(proved when Pegasus had it's glory run on China), so I fear that might not encourage any change.

Anyway, all that Rebellion have to lose is being slower than ByKolles, so it wouldn't make much difference to change to Dunlops. In a freak condition, they could have a glory run battling the factory cars but you know how conservative people usually are
