Good to hear some official confirmation. Wasn't worried about them not returning but who knows in these times. Hopefully we see a good season long battle between Rebellion and Kolles.

It will be interesting to see what engine developments will arrive from AER, I am still convinced the twin-turbo layout is damaging the aero performance more than they realise, I would much like to see a single turbo layout like in F1, just above the bell-housing, it would give an almost clear air-path around the sides of the engine and drive the rear aero assembly much harder for improved down-force.......perhaps they could locate both turbos above the bell-housing, it would have the same engine effect, but much less aggro having to fully re-map the engine......Merceded now have both turbos located inside the V of the 4.0 V8, so it could be done......the C of G would raise, but most WEC circuits are are big fast long ones, hardly hungary or monaco which require a nimble chassis

Unless they run a small turbo or VTG turbo, single turbo doesn't make sense as it would cause turbo lag. Also, the only reason that Porsche gets away with a single turbo is because their ERS-H system can function as anti-lag.

And, of course, no private team will be running a hybrid system. And it also doesn't help that the Audi and Porsche LMP1 engines were designed around having their turbos mounted within the V of the block between the cylinders heads. AER apparently made no provision for this. For bellhousing mounted turbos, Rebellion and Kolles or XTrac will have to make new gearbox casings as well. All of this would be very expensive modifications for the private teams to invest in.

Or they could just use the Judd V10, but I don't think that'll make an appearance until (or if, rather) LMP1 private teams will be given the option to go back to running air restrictors instead of the fuel flow meters.

You sure about that? I dont think Porsches ERS-H can spool the turbo like on the F1 engines. Porsches ERS-H is a turbine located in the exhaust, not connected to the turbo, if I'm not misstaken?

Turbo lag is not an issue for the hybrid cars because of the enormous torque of the electric motors.

They'll have 1-2 CLMs as sole opposition, unless the unnamed Japanese team that ---apparently--- has requested entry for LM is SARD or some other team making immensely unlikely shock P1 commitment.

Bart Hayden is in attendance at Daytona. Even though we are already perfectly aware of Rebellion's desire sto race elsewhere for overall wins (thanks idiots who prevented this!), I hope he doesn't like what he sees too much at Daytona, as it would be a crying shame to lose them from LMP1 for some spec LMP2s in 2017. Which is what they've hinted at considering already. Dual global campaign again, albeit in different classes, that'd be different of course, but I'm always preparing for worst!

They have also provided Rebellion with their chassis for the LMP1 Lite category. Hughes indicated that the team has opted to not incorporate any upgrades for the upcoming season. As such, Hughes is concerned about the health of that sub-class. “The ACO has to step forward and help these privateer entrants with better control of budgets. Take for instance the fuel consumption regulations, there is no need for them. All it does is add to the cost to compete, which is already quite high.”

Kolles is competition. Even with a driver that's about a second slower than his teammate, they took 'class' wins. Like I said, they need to drop the fuel flow crap for private teams and lower their weight. If the CLM can't meet it in the future that's their fault.

Rebellion doesn't need performance updates for 2016, only fix to reliability which has been awful. That is why Kolles took those "wins" even last year.

2017 is another thing of course, assuming more people are lining up.

The gap to the factories isn't particularly gonna close even with free fuel ratios and (again) lower weights, although they'd ease off things somewhat in the team booth, so they'd be welcomed regardless.

I didn't say they needed upgrads. But they do have competition regardless of what you think about Kolles. A win is a win, through speed or reliability it's meaningless. On top of it, the CLM is going to be upgraded this year so it might be an actual battle!

Important maybe, but probably more important for Dunlop than Rebellion. A different tire, even if a bit better, won’t fundamentally change the reality that Rebellion is racing for seventh and only places higher than that if an Audi, Porsche, or Toyota breaks. If Rebellion does better than expected, it could get Dunlop in the door with the factory teams.

Not that this will surprise anyone that follows him long enough, but this is a proof that GG knows what he is talking about

Almost surely, Rebellion got very little attention from Michelin, who totally focuses on the manufacturers' car demands, and with Dunlop they will surely have total attention and development. I'm still skeptical if this will be enough for them to have better tires but I liked this move very much.

I hope Dunlop tires are better(eventhough I doubt it) than what Michelin typically brings to WEC so that it forces Michelin to bring faster tires to LMP1 and thus more than offset the 10MJ reduction in fuel allocation

If ByKolles becomes much faster this year, though, then I fear Michelin's monopoly will remain for several years, sadly.

Dunlop will basically be Rebellion's bespoke tire. Their going to be for their car only (at first). That's why they said "development partner". That should be good for some gains once they come to grips (pun intended) with the new Dunlops.

It will be a useful testing environment for Dunlop as they get ready for quicker LMP2s in 2017.

Well if dunlops engineers work well with the rebellion guys it could be the improvement they need to get closer to the factory cars

I had suspected/hoped for the Dunlop switch from the very beginning when the Swiss were listed on their testing days at Bahrain, after they decided not to bother with the Rookie Test but do that solely. Awesome news, thrilled! And to have tire war back in LMP1 in general was desperately needed too.
