Obviously they no longer trust the volunteers for this job either, one more job gone. I bet he doesn't stick around and wave the meatball, black flag, etc, but we might see him back to get the 'glory' of waving the chequered.

Very back to the future.
Several years ago Tim Schenken used to wander down to the starters stand to tap the starter on the shoulder as each light signal was to be turned on/off and then go back to RC once the race started. Of course just because he tapped their shoulder didn't mean they paid any attention to it Of course part of the whole start procedure is to not be machine like and vary it slightly to keep 'em second guessing. There is the other method of waiting until the chase car has to brake so as to not run into the rear of the grid before turning the Reds off |
