Players/Forsythe

Felt it necessary to respond to Mags on a separate thread.

Both JV and Greg Moore were sponsored by Player's in their CART rides for Forsythe. THAT is a "clear bankroll."

And, yes, I diss Gerry in this instance. He's supposed to be one of the gazillionaire saviours of the series and he owes Tracy money, kicked out Carpentier and took a ride-buy to take care of his own team before he took care of the series grid, as did the other OWRS principals with THEIR ride buys, any of which could have gone to shore up unfunded teams.

We keep hearing how much money these guys have and that they're going to save the series with "whatever it takes." Well, now, money is what it takes instead of Gentilozzi's rhetoric.

When Patrick and Penske started CART, they helped the little teams get going and built a series up. They helped them with money and occasionally loaned them race cars in a pinch in those early days, with the series first in mind.

These guys haven't.

Completely correct. I really couldn't beleive what Mags was writing in the Fernandez thread - long before she tastelessly brought Greg Moore's name in. Gerry cares little about bringing young Canadian talent through - it was Players who insisted on the nationality.

Lavin is not the first case of him signing a funded non-Canadian driver - look at the Fabis in the 80s. When he ran the Forsythe Championship Racing team out of his own pocket in 2001, he ran Herta. When Pat wa sout inured in 2001, he hired Gidley - in a ride a yougn Canadian could have done with.

And indycool's assessment of OWRS' treachery seems completely accurate.

Indy,

I can only agree with you and thanks for helping make my point prior to Mags unbelievably classless and poor taste Greg Moore comment.

Okay. So far it's all been "attacking the post - not the poster" - but let's leave that topic alone now.

Good advice Mac. There isn't one of us who hasn't, at least once, said something unfortunate in the heat of the moment. This member is a great contributor to this forum, and I'd hate for one remark to change that. I say that as someone for whom Greg's death is still an open wound.
I think we're all just hyperventilating a it over the events of the last 24 hours.

Mac I can only agree with you to some point. If someone makes a comment as Mags did she needs to be called on it. It was reckless and sad.

I have asked her for an apology and have yet to see anything from her on it. If she had right away apolozgized this would all be gone. People do say things in the heat of the moment...

Had to cut that last part, as it clearly attacked the poster. That's what we're trying to avoid here. And, it's my opinion that enough has been said already. I suggest again that we let this rest and get this thread back to topic - if it even really has one in the first place.

Well, apparantly since I got the question in just after the final buzzer in that other thread, I will ask it here: If Forsythe is all about Canadian drivers, then why in 1995, without Player's sponsorship, did he hire Italian Teo Fabi, and not Canadian David Empringham, who was coming off of back to back Toyota Atlantic Championships, but did not have the Player's ride because it was already taken?
