Exactly what IS the "classic American form of motorsport?" I have the feeling that "stock cars" (privateers racing on local 1/4 mile dirt ovals) would be the top vote getter in that category.
The ideae of a 20 car CWS field racing at the Barrie Speedway makes me feel a bit faint. |

Liz,
I believe you're right. There are something like 800 "short tracks" in the U.S., and best guess is that half or more are paved. The NASCAR Winston Racing Series even found its way to a little track in Wasilla, Alaska a few years ago and short tracks for stock cars are all over the south. Short tracks for midgets and sprinters are mostly in the midwest and on the west coast. Haven't been there in years, but you folks used to have a good one in Delaware Speedway in London...but I don't think you could run CCs there! |
