The weight alone won’t give them more speed in corners. That might give them more grip from the tyres, but it needs it as here is more mass to turn. (Not sure if that is what you meant RL)

But they should be alright for straight line speed. They have power (as discussed above and I presume not detuned much), but these things are designed to nudge 200mph.

I think he means that on an oval there are, essentially, no corners as such so they don't need aero grip.

If it ends up that much heavier than a GTE it's gonna need to brake a lot earlier especially without any aero that would slow it down or give cornering grip.

Anyway, we will see on the test day how it performs, no matter how much testing and simulation they do we all know track time with the other classes, and the real G56 car as opposed to the test car they are running at the moment will be the big teller.

Thinking there's no need for aero grip and no corners on an oval shows a basic lack of understanding of well frankly anything about oval racing. Hell half the midsize ovals on the series actually require decent braking in each corner and a few are VERY hard on brakes

Running 5 to 10mm behind the GTEs in front should also reduce drag.

Now I'm going to be mad if they don't try this!

I'm not sure anyone is going to be all that happy with them trying to bump draft a prototype down the Mulsanne, but it would be worth a watch...

The test/development/actual race car (?) is running dive planes on the front and rear (I guess the rear ones would be called 'dive planes'). So they are working on aero and optimizing and learning tweeking and tuning.

If they aren't, they will do some 'rubbin to get other cars out of the way

As the pictures of the one testing has "Test Car" in big letters on the back then I'm guessing it's the test car with a fresh one or two yet to be built for further testing and racing, incorporating what they have learnt and what they have been asked to do ready for LM.

Do expect the fairly slippery coupe shape Nascar to be quicker on straights and slower on the corners than a GTE car for similar lap times. Should also expect Nascar to be 200kg or so heavier and again weight will hinder cornering ability and braking into corners.

Top speed of GTE cars decreases over similar powered GT3 variants as the increased aero increases downforce for higher corner speeds at the expense of increased drag. Light F1 cars have terrible drag but lower frontal areas etc.

Agree Nascar's need to corner and brake well but relative importance on care designs must be lower than high speed and aero/balance stability in close formations than for a circuit race car.

Can see small amounts of aero being added for front turn in etc but going to far with ugly rear diffusors extending 400mm or so behind is probably not the way they want to or should go. Do hope they are not too restricted on the straights.

Yeesh. Not a very technical explanation of the features and differences. "Headlights", you don't say..... This particular graphic seems to be tailored more for it's "core" fanbase as compared to the spreadsheet they released yesterday containing far more interesting details of the car.

As for the livery, I agree with a few others here that it's not the most inspiring. In fact, I would almost prefer the test mule livery over this because black is always cool, right?

Regardless of all that, the anticipation of seeing this at Le Sarthe is stronger than ever for me!

Fortunately us sportscar fans are much more sophisticated. We care what color it is.

Nice chunk of weight taken out. I’d be interested in knowing how that was achieved. In some ways I figure it was easy to do, but where exactly? It’s not like they took bits out completely, which areas are lighter bits. I’ve achieved similar with a racing car, but I started with a road car.

Do they add ballast to get to the min weight in NASCAR?
