New Championship: Le Mans Tournament
According to today's Ouest-France the ACO will launch a new championship called Le Mans Tournament. This championship will be under ACO rules and will welcome the different categories that compete in Le Mans 24h. There will be from 4 to 6 races, all in Europe. These will be 4 hours races. Of course the organisators will ensure that the dates don't collapse with the ALMS ones.

This'll certainly put more of an emphasis on privateer teams for both series.
I wonder where this leaves FIA SSC and GT... |

if it won't 'collapse' with ALMS rounds, is it another attempt to make the international LMS series, remerber the Pacific Lemans races, and the ELMS? FIA SCC and GT will hang around as it is a good place for the privateers to get their feet wet, i don't think that the ACO/ELMS/ALMS rounds will really interfere, it may be good to have a more focused series to test in, winning is winning, but a 4 hour race is not the one you want win the 24 is.

As a former devotee of the old 1000 kms at Silverstone and Brands Hatch, I really do miss those races. |

Well i would really like to see proper cars at Brands again. The ALMS race at Silver in 2000 was very good.
But Brands, Hawthorn, Paddock + Bentley! |

If it is European, it'll have to have one in the UK
I Wouldn't be surprised if the list of venues included Paul Ricard, Estoril, Brno, Monza and Spa |

Silverstone, Brands, or Donnington, which do you think ACO will go for?

Just got finished watching the entire Sebring 12 hours and reading this thread of a new Le Mans series coming and Ayse saying that he heard about it, none of the commentators said anything over the broadcast! If the new series does kick off, what year will it start?

It will start probably in 2004, but let's wait for conflicts between ACO and FIA : what will become of the FIA-SCC ? Can't live if there's a new championship...
For english tracks : not regarding the historical/interrest of the place, which track is the most 'up-to-date' ? Maybe they're all, but it could be a key in the choice... Which one is the most practicle for froggies coming in UK ? |
