Agent should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Pink Panther

Hi all, have just joined your site today and have spent some time going through all the different areas.

I am trying to locate Roy Baker ( If still alive) as I was the driver in South Africa who was responsible for the colour choice on the Tiga.
Must say having only driven FF and a lot of modified sollons as well as for Renault SA it was a highlight in my life to drive a car like that, bit of a dog through a negative camber right hander though.
Then again if the sponsors so desire colour is not an option as long as they pay.

It was sad to see on I believe it was some commercial video when the car was in that big crach at Brands. ( Is it on You Tube ) by any chance.

I also have some nice photo's of that event here at Kyalami but not on digital as it was a wee few years back.

I stopped racing and motor sport commentary many years ago and now spending my time flying a ultra light just as a hobby in spare time and involved in airfield developement.

Well the racing in the UK has allways been heathy and nice to see you folks still keeping the old cars going.

Pink !!! ......strange color for a man to pick

I remember that crash too , that was my first sportscar race , 1986 . I remember the wheel going faster past me than the car ever did !!! Cant remember what car the Tiga hit though ?

And Brilliant Bob won the event too .

Thanks Graham did not know about the passing.
I was just having a relaxed Sunday afternoon when the Google bug got a hold of me and the search began brining up Roy Baker plenty so it appears he was a big name in sports car racing.

And to The Badger please take note that the sponsors are the ones to have chosen the colour, must say it appeared to also have a distingtive effect on the marketing of the car, still even today it creates a laugh here in the racing circles. I will find some time to scan a few of the pic's I have and post them here or in the galary.

The Tiga crashed in 88, not 86. Spun in front of Jochen Mass who hit it at a fair rate of knots exiting Clearways.

Anyone who owns the "Havoc 8" VHS will know that accident if they like the sportscar section on that video.

Svierge has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!

I'm sure Mass missed the Tiga, but his avoiding action took him into the barriers pretty hard. He had a right go at the poor Tiga driver afterwards in the pits. I remember someone, in Autosport I guess, pondering whether his OTT reaction was something to do with his own memories of the Villeneuve crash.

The Tiga went on to finish the race I think, albeit many laps down.

I was marshalling round the back at Westfield the day of the infamous Pink Panther/works Mercedes incident at Clearways. Seemed to take forever to clean everything up to resume racing. Seeing it afterwards on video I realised what a large accident it was, not only taking Mass out, but Mauro Baldi having to wait a lap in the sister car for the clutch to cool down in order to rejoin.

This race was actually my son's very first race of any kind (at somewhat less than one year old!) - In some of the TV footage you can see his pushchair by the fence on the exit of Clearways.

He maintains to this day that he remembers the incident!
