Matthew Halliday

just thought I would let people know who this young matthew halliday is who is starting to go very well in the indy lites series.

Matt is a young new zealand driver who came up through the ranks in his native NZ before coming to Australia and drove in the Formula Holden series..he was always near the front in the series and may have pulled off a win or two (im not sure on this one though)..he started this year off with deal to drive in the formula Atlantic series and started one race with reasonably good results ..he then switched across to the Indy lites series and has come on strong at the last 2 rounds ..running well in the rain at portland only to slip off the track in the bad conditions and now at Kansas qualified an excellent 3rd or 4th (cant quite remember which..but it was row 2)
and at one stage was leading the race ..first time on a super speedway and only second time on an oval and matt proved he was worthy of being there in fact was worthy of winning the race but on the last lap was pushed off line by a hard charging Townsend bell and fell back and finished 5th ..still an awesome result and im sure this wont be the last you hera of him.

here is a couple of pics i took of matt racing at winton in the Australian Formula holden champioship back in 1999

thats Matt stuck in the middle of the pack.

Here matt has got himself into a bit of trouble spinning out of turn one but then because of heavy showers for three days prior to the meeting he got bogged on the infield.

maybe not the best pics to show but they are all i have of this exciting and talented new Zealand driver who is making a name for himself in the US.

Boy, you are making him look good, aren't you, with those pictures? ("Stuck in the middle of the pack", "spinning out", etc. ) Sorry, couldn't resist that.

On a more serious note, thanks for the info. I'll be sure to remember "you told us first". Good luck to him!

Yay! Go kiwis. Pity Simon Wills couldn't get over there as well eh Marcus? Now theres a hard charger from Formula Holdens. He thrashed Scott Dixon a couple of years ago to take the NZ GP as well.
Pity he's only racing in the Konica V8 series.

I wish Scott all the luck in the world for this coming weekend; despite being a completely one eyed Nz fan, I think he is destined for greatness

actually i think simon wills would do pretty well over there ..he has proven that he is as good as matt halliday and Scott dixon if not better ..im not going to judge that call..but NZ seems to be producing some very good drivers over the past few years.
