Nice one there Eric.

It indeed seems spectators are further from the track but it also seems one has a longer stretch of track in sight.

I wonder, will there be a viewing area across the track? Let's say on the inside of the first right hander of the Porsche curves, accessible from the Beausejour campsite?

Actually, they are posing pink gravels on the side of the track from Arnage corner to Porsche corner. Like at Mulsanne straight few years ago :

What about from Mulsanne corner to Indianapolis, same thing?

Well at least this is one somewhat positive news that has came out this year regarding the modifications, even very light gravel touch should decrease people from shortcutting the asphalt shoulder zones a bit. Of course, people can and will still utilize them as main Mulsanne straight proves, but small help.

Surprising that the new asphalt runoff at the beginning of Curve isn't bigger yet.

I suspect this is going to drastically increase speed and reduce lap times.

Thanks Eric. The solution they've come up with isn't really that bad all in all.

A lot of money spent. How it actually helps with safety I have no idea?

I don't think it will make too much difference. You don't see cars completely cutting the Mulsanne Kink, for instance.

I had to take some avoiding action due to an idiot on a scooter while driving on the circuit last year and I can tell you, if that surface off the road feels that disgusting at 40mph in a Fiat Panda, nobody will be using it unless they really have to.

I had lucky to meet former Porsche 962 driver Oscar Larrauri last year, and he told me that the circuit surface is a mess, because it's made of public roads as you know, and the usual traffic as trucks leaves the surface undulate. So it's not easy to change from one side of the road to the other.

About the new side road now asphalted, I think it's safer to avoid accidents, but if driver use it as a normal way to overtake, it could be a problem more than a solution.

I'm still confused whether it is more about public road safety or race circuit safety. In the first-mentioned case benefits would be obvious.

Thanks.

The "pink gravel" isn't as equally placed as I thought but they will probably work more on that-

Would wish bigger kerbs too to decrease shortcuttÃ*ng. Those won't do the trick.

Glad they didn't pave Indianapolis (corner)... yet.

I really don't see this "corner-cutting" fear. At all. Maybe on the straights cars will go onto the asphalt to lap two GTs scrapping with each other in the first couple of hours, but if you try to cut one of those three kinks leading to Indy, even curbs as low as those are going to launch you into the air at those speeds - or if they don't, they'll cause enough of a disturbance to increase lap time rather than reduce it.

Again, I refer to the case of Mulsanne Kink - if that corner is ever cut I rarely see it, and it's had similar asphalt run-off for years.
