When I first heard about the Eseries, I largely ignored it. But after a day or two, I came around to the idea. In a world of no sport, any live competition is likely to get media coverage. Drivers are sitting idly by, get some use from their profile.
This is a great opportunity for teams to get additional coverage for their sponsors. What are the football codes going to be doing for the next 4 weeks? Nothing. Supercars has something to generate chat. The Eseries won't entertain many here, but that doesn't really matter. It only needs a small percentage of the very large possible audience to be a success. It's not a solution, but given the times, it is a good idea. |

Not sure if I am willing to subscribe to KAYO let alone Foxtel to watch it though.

Supercars season could run into 2021 and Supercars investigating TV-only event viability
Much like most other sporting codes, Supercars is still living in a parallel universe in believing that things will be back to normal shortly. This is going to run for at least 6 months, so fourteen events, forget it. Best we can realistically hope for is for a couple of events at the end of the year. As for the championship, call it null and void. |

They have no option, they have to talk it up, to do otherwise would be suicidal to the financial health of the category. He can't admit that racing this year is tenuous at best and most likely wishful thinking.

They don’t have a tv deal for 2021 and even if they get one it is likely to be for loose change.Articles in the press suggest the virus may tip Foxtel into bankruptcy and 7 whose value is not much more than 10% of what it was a few years ago are having to negotiate with their bankers to keep trading. The other networks might take it for free but are in no position to pay.
A lot of professional sport is going to be collateral damage from this which shows what a house of cards it was to begin with. |

If my info is right, Fox are going to add the A League to Rugby Union as sports they will drop. I think Banksie said this previously, something tells me Supercars might be well placed amongst all of this, Fox are going to need some sports to make Kayo seem like a good deal.

Still wont be the economic environment to get anything approaching the current deal IMHO.
But relatively well off in not having to resort to a deal with Optus one would think. |

Correct on both counts. Rugby Union would kill for any TV deal right now. They are shot.

Foxtel’s big mistake was paying way over the odds for any domestic sport -excluding ARL and NFL-and then not getting any proportional return in increased subscriptions.Supercars is just as much a part of this as A League,Rugby Union and Cricket.
What they are doing in a state of financial distress is ending all these contracts so they have some money to go after AFL and NRL at the next contract renewal.Supercars will be part of these cuts. All that is presuming Foxtel will still exist in a few months.Today News Ltd closed their regional papers and given that the Murdoch’s have had to personally bail out Foxtel pre virus to the tune of several hundred million dollars they might soon decide to pull the plug. Reading stuff in recent days about how slowly and carefully they will need to wind back physical distancing restrictions I can’t see any sporting event proceeding with spectators this year. |
