Masarati GTS confirmed for 2004

In Autosport

Ascanelli:'Masarati is coming back to GT racing. We can't say more until the rules are finalised'.

As has been known for some time the new car will be based on the Ferrari Enzo.

However will Ratel allow it in FIA GTs or will it only be allowed in ACO LM/ALMS/ELMS.

If the Saleen is banned due to it being a racing car first and foremost how can the Masarati be allowed.

Maserati is coming!!! Maserati most important market is USA so they only need to be allowed by ACO LM/ALMS/ELMS.

Ratel will change is ideas, you will see! FIA-GT needs more new car like this new Maserati based on the Ferrari Enzo.

The car is aimed at FIA GT and Le Mans but will obviosly race in the ALMS as well. Particularly if as has been rumoured the new Supercars will cost less than a Prodrive 550 as the cars will have less engine development etc.

Afterall the cars are almost race spec from the off unlike something like a 550 or Viper.

Dosen't say but going by the 360 effort from Ferrari I would assume it to be customer cars with factoey support. For FIA GTs works teams are not actually allowed

Yes, very correct. But They could attack LeMans with a semi-factory team to prove that Maserati GTS is a good car for custoumers.

True but I would think they would back someone like JMB with their 360s in FIA GTs and ALMS (in 2003).

BMS are supposed to be switching to Ferrari Enzos for there 2004 campaign. They may switch to the Masarati as it will be a works built car.

Nissan are supposed to be racing works 350Zs at LM in 2003 with possibly works backed cars in the ALMS (if Nissan NA agree). Otherwise only customer cars will race in the ALMS and FIA GTs IF teams buy them.

It's great to have confirmation of the rumour I circulated last month. I will look forward to supporting them in 2004 at LeMans.
