They're all as bad as each other but at the end of the day it's also very much overplayed and a tad manufactured. It wouldn't surprise me if they all got along behind the scenes.

Clever journalist asks the right leading questions, gets exact reaction from team principal, said principal is either pantomime villain or martyr, rinse and repeat.

Except Guenther. We all love Guenther.

Agree - there's certainly a group of them as bad as each other (the TPs at Mercedes & Red Bull definitely being the worst - think that they are out in front of the others really, although Mr Alpine is close behind).

Guenther is definitely outside the box and yeah, reckon loved/liked by all - particularly his contributions to the English language - it's only a question of time until "fockslam" makes it into all the dictionaries surely?

Actually I would like to see more people challenge Mr Horner for his comments. Like that piece in the Times (I think it was) where the writer called him when he tried to play the innocent and blame everyone else when his team got caught breaching the budget cap. Too many people let him speak and let his bull go unchallenged

Oh ,who cares , really ? All the faux outrage and sniping is just daft . Every pantomime needs a villain - isn't that why the new breed of F1 fan (never been to a race circuit but cannot wait to express offence or approbation ) watches it ?

Pantomime villain, yes, very apt I'd say. You just come across people in all walks of life that you just don't like and Horner is (for me) one of those.

No, we don’t need that. And that would be my hope.

Also, people who go to race circuits are just as desperate. In fact some of them use it to justify their offense and consider that it gives them legitimate approbation over those who don’t.

Surely we all need to understand where we sit in the hierarchy?

Only post online and never watch motorsport - keyboard warriors.
Watch motorsport on tv, but never go to a circuit - armchair fans.
Go to a circuit to watch live motorsport (BTCC/F1 only) - Plebeians.
Go to a circuit to watch other live motorsport - indoctrinated.
Participate from the paddock - insiders, the only ones with true knowledge.
Drivers - deities.

I have to say the only time I have ever encountered that has been Brands GP 76 when Hunt was denied a restart , Silverstone in peak Mansell era (Sun reading knuckle draggers hurling abuse at Senna - every lap ) and the odd BTCC meeting . One reason I love live motorsport is the lack of tribalism and the prevalence of kindred spirits enjoying a day out.

My experience is that at live F1 the tribalism still exists. In amateur motorsports not so much (probably harder to define specific "tribes" at that level. Actually the "tribe" is everyone who cares about amateur motorsports).

I think the real difference between online vs. live... is that "most" people are less of a jerk in person than they are online.

sadly, sizable live crowds affords a similar measure of anonymity for boorish behaviour as hiding behind keyboards do.

no doubt a very small group, but a number of noteworthy incidents this past season involving the 'orange army' fans.

and generally far far too much booing during podiums and interviews by all the different fan bases.

maybe its just a post covid thing, but a better behaved more respectful live audience would be nice.

Chili, that was my experience at Austin GP this year. Nothing bad. Ideally as a fan you cheer for your driver/team. But there clearly was those who were celebrating the misfortune of others. So IMHO, the tribalism existed there just as much as here on this forum (or any other social media).

That’s quite a few then.

But it’s not what I meant. I meant that some who go to races use that to point out they are better than others. To dismiss others when talking on the internet.

Nice one. I love it. Particularly those who quit watching, attending, reading, etc. about F1, but are still more than willing to tell everyone their opinion on the current situation. Especially why they quit "caring" a long time ago. They don't get the irony that if they really no longer cared, they wouldn't be posting on an F1 forum!

See I attended a F1 race earlier this year. My first one in probably a decade. The value, accuracy and truthfulness of my opinion has now jumped up by orders of magnitude!

Not 'better' - as if - but often more informed . It is an entirely different experience to watch TV where a director decides whom you will see, and where, and a commentator will tell you what you are watching . But being there yourself involves watching in a very different way , as long you make an effort. For me that involves several miles walk so I can watch technique and car behaviour in different locations as well as wandering around the paddock and looking at stuff that I find of interest - sadly no longer possible at F1 .

That's great. I'll happily accept being No:2 on the list now, although I do occasionally like to stand in a forest listening to rally cars before catching a glimpse as they wiz past.

I don't really care if Max wins another championship this year but I do hope the competition is closer among the big 3 plus some of the 2nd tier teams vie for the occasional win on merit.

I would like to see a clear sense of driving standards and appropriate steward intervention or absence thereof. Yeah, right - I know.

I would also like to see an end to drivers going ridiculously slowly on outlaps or bunching up the field during qually. That could be more controllable.

I'd like to hear Guenther Steiner's reaction to a Haas win.
