MolsonBoy should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
IRL would not run Long Beach this year....

From paddocktalk.com....
---------------
Nation said the Canadian races would not be the only ones to disappear in 2004 if the IRL wins its bid.

He said even CART's successful Long Beach, Calif., event — which the IRL has specifically targeted in its bid, along with the Ford engines used exclusively by CART teams — would not be added to this year's schedule because the date conflicts with an IRL race in Japan.
---------------

Now LBGP should be objecting to the IRL bid and so should Molson.

How do you figure that? How do you know he won't buy the 'rights' to the race in 2005 and beyond by signing a contract, plus help LB stage an alternative race this year with cash?

I'm sure he can make LB happy with dollars.

An "alternate race" that will draw 300,000? Are they bringing NASCAR in?

As I understand it IRL could not run at Long Beach,as their cars are not suitable for road circuits & could not be modified before 2005.

Exactly gt. Either ALMS or Grand-Am will probably the the 'filler' for 2004.

In regards to how many folks, who cares as long as the promotors make money. If CART drew that many it sure didn't help them survive did it?

It sounds like the IRL might accelerate their chasis mods. TG might have to help the teams out on that.

OK, this is probably going to sound bizarre, but could TG buy up any old/unused Lola/Reynards for this year?
Heck, anything is possible in this bizarre sport we love.

Could it be run as a non-championship race in 04?

Believe me, Long Beach has 'Plan B' in their hip pocket, and those parties have been in discussion by now.

He might neeed to, even the lemmmings at crackforum are lamenting the fact that this year's cars are even uglier than last year's.

As long as there is a party, Long Beach will still draw a sizeable crowd even if they put a bunch of monkeys on the track instead of cars.

Penske says road courses don't provide for the best TV viewing, but he wants more of them. Go figure.
