Anuauto has a lot of promise if they can keep it on the circuit!
Of concern is that the Snetterton web site publicised this sprint but then managed to use the limited space it had to say:
1. The British Sprint Championship contains a Modified Production class (it doesn't and there is currently no Leaders Championship).
2. Modified Production category cars can use non-original blocks/engines (they never have been able to).

I think the first thing to appreciate is that any publicity from an organisation like MSV should be welcomed. Obviously it is a new venture for them and they will get things wrong.

There is no Leaders Championship within the British Championship due to the additional costs involved plus the lack of interest shown in the last two years it was run.

The British Sprint Championship DOES contain a Modified Production CATEGORY which was won in 2004 by John Sampson who is currently leading it this year.

There are two reasons why there is just ONE Mod Prod class in the British Sprint Championship:

1) Lack of Entries to run seperate classes for Production based cars and Kit Cars.

and

2) Regional Variations as to what is a Mod Prod (e.g. some areas allow Vauxhall engined Escorts in as Mod Prods!)

As for the Road Cars, again it is numbers. The last time we ran the Sprint Leaders there were so few entered we made a loss.

Any Road Up, what do you drive Anuauto?

? - Modprod is an MSA national category defined in GR's - always has been since introduced in 1991. No regional variations exist, other than different capacity class splits (only in SW) and the separation of saloons,sports cars and kit cars already referred to. The fact that some cars with non-orignal blocks may have run in the category is down not just to lack of eligibility scrutineering but clear hostility of many organisers to any request to enforce what should be clearly understood regulations which some people have spent good money complying with. To be able to look around the paddock at a major venue and see at a glance that every car in a particular Modprod class is not fitted with the original block is a scandal that the Speed event world should be totally ashamed of. (A little bird reports the offending vehicle mentioned above was in fact moved to Sports Libre at Snetterton in an all too rare example of application of basic regs!)
As for Roadgoing cars, the belated MSC attempt to write acceptable GRs was flawed by failure to listen to those pointing out the full implications of the minimum production quantities used. Hence few regions use the new Roadgoing GRs. The Sprint Leaders was never going to be viable for road cars under the system adopted so long as one region (now its worse this year, with others moving away from standardisation) was out of step on something as fundamental as List 1a tyres. Most (all?) British Championship Sprints and some Brit Ch Hillclimbs would not be viable without production car entries - and those that abide by the rules in those categories have been getting a raw deal for far too long.

It just so happens I wasn't refering to the Graham Miller Ford Escort-Vauxhall which ran at Croft in Sports Libre and ran at Snetterton in a combined Sports Libre and Mod Prod class.

Oh and you didn't mention what car you drive!

The phrase 'protest to the clerk of course' springs to mind. If something doesn't adhere to the rules of the class it's entered in then draw the organiser's attention to it.

Woolley is correct. There are too many peole who wander round the Paddocks muttering darkly about illegal cars. Yet do they protest? Hardly ever!

The old adage 'Put up or shut up!' springs to mind.

There are too many examples of speed event C of Cs making thinly veiled threats of not accepting future entries when a competitor raises eligibility questions, whether or not they have a protest cheque in their hand. Only the other day on another forum we see complaints about similar insinuations to those complaining at being told at the last minute they have not got entries when the organiser had sat on their entry for 6 months. It is also the role of the Cof C to require the Chief Scrutineer to investigate eligibilty queries, whether or not a protest has been made. It too often doesn't happen. So please wise up both Wolley and Steve Wilkinson - its not the cosy simplistic little world it may appear to some (and what areas of production car eligibility are you experts in? - there are competitors who might be glad of help). There are a few (too few) good speed organisers out there but when one refers to production cars as "the rubbish", not realising he is talking to a production car competitor working hard on maintenance/improvement of his venue, it is pretty difficult to gain a favourable impression. Come to think of it, referring to the "supporting cast" is not so far removed from that is it? (now who did that this week?). Facts of life lecture over. Speed events are not all about the few, they are the entry to fast motorsport for the many and must reflect the full cross section of the sport (while we still have some venues...). Too many do not. Anyone for "Cruising" or "Drifting" - because thats what will take over venues if attitudes dont change?

-and "it just so happens" I was referring to the vehicle pictured on the Snetterton site! So what's the big deal? Having regulations that people comply with at considerable cost to themselves and then having a promoter fail to enforce them is about as immoral as it gets. Anyone who could not agree with that would have some serious problems of integrity so I assume all on here agree and the point is closed.

That would be me! Glad to see you are at least reading the reports!

If there had been other CHAMPIONSHIPS at the meeting then I would have tried to mention them. As it was there weren't any (due to the very late inclusion of Snetterton in the Speed Event claendar).
I can't guarantee to mention every championship or every class when I have VERY limited word allocations for my reports. A couple of years back a Mod Prod Mini driver complained that although he won his class he hadn't had a mention. My response was to tell him that with the small word allocation I had been given he had to break the class record to have a chance of being mentioned. At the next Sprint Championship meeting he duly broke the Up to 1400 Mod Prod class record and got his mention.

It isn't the easiest job to write reports to a limited word count. It means you can't mention everyone. At least in Speedscene there are less demands to be brief.

I also find the AMALGAMATION of classes a complete farce and equally 'immoral'. After all if you have slaved to prepare your Mod Prod Mini and then find yourself in with the Mod Prod Westfields there is little point in turning up!

This is another thing that is 'turning off' competitors.

Knockhill calling!

With Round Three scheduled for 28th May at the fabulous Knockhill course the Sprint Championship bandwagon will be rolling North soon.

Latest news is that Rodney Eyles has re-entered the championship after retiring. Glad he has had second thoughts as he has been missed.

Fingers crossed that Tony Eyles will have the 'new' Opel V6 installed in the Force in time.

Roy Dawson will be back in the line-up after missing Snetterton to 'sort out' his new DJ Firehawk.

Garry Dickson will be making the trip from o'er the water in the Orkneys with his indecently quick Westie.

If you can drag yourself away from the gardening and the telly it is well worth a trip.

Rd 3 Knockhill

... and it rained!

It was very light drizzle by the time of Top Twelve run-off and it turned out to be a cracker. Stewart Robb scored his maiden British Sprint Championship victory in the ex-Griffiths/Grace/Newton MP58 DFR. Rodney Eyles was second on his 2005 debut whilst Tony Wiltshire grabbed third and the lead in the championship. Tony Eyles was fourth but was restricted to a single run when the front wing collapsed. Roy Dawson was fifth, just one thousandth adrift, in his new Firehawk whilst Steve Broughton was sixth troubled by a crumbling gearbox!
Seventh spot went to the intrpid Stephen Miles in the Mole Racing Van Diemen that dragged its carbonfibre undertray round all day! Andrew Platt was a disappointing eighth in the Dallara as Garry Dickson's trip from Orkney was rewarded with ninth spot. Tenth went to Simon Ashby how may well have regretted the choice of slicks as may Phil Lynch in eleventh. Last place went to Nick Algar who had lain ninth after the first runs but who had the clutch explode on his second run!

As all the teams who were present start to dry out everyone is looking forward to the Pembrey double header next week-end.

Pembrey Prattle

Some BAD news just in - Steve Broughton and Kim Kingham will not be at Pembrey this coming week-end due the transmission problem that Steve suffered in the run-off at Knockhill. The engine has to come out and as Steve had only just finished putting the SBD Westfield back together by lunch time today he has withdrawn. Meanwhile the 1500cc engine should be ready to go back in next week so maybe for Anglesey on the 12th June he can start to take the battle to Roy Dawson!

Pembrey Post Event Prattle

Saturday:- Richard Williams had a nasty accident when he outbraked himself at Hatchets Hairpin. The Ralt-Hart RT4 locked up, hit the kerb on the apex which launched the car over the track and onto the wet grass. The car then appeared to accelerate into the tyre wall. The car was a mess and Richrad was taken to Carmarthen Hospital for precautionary XRays to his back. He returned later in the day somewhat battered and bruised. Everyone at the circuit and the whole of the British Sprint Championship 'family' wish him a speedy recovery. Tony Ellis also had a big off at Hatchets but luckily was uninjured. The Megapin lost a wheel and it ended his week-end but it looks an easy repair unlike the Ralt.
Onto the event. For once it didn't rain and in the run-off Tony Eyles set BTD on his opening run. However with an extra point on offer this year for breaking the relevant Category Record in the run-off he went all out on his second effort. He spun and hit the kerb at Esses at approximately 140 mph and although there was little damage to the car a suspension bolt sheared and the Force would be sidelined for Sunday. Rodney Eyles cruised home in second for the second week in a row. Whilst Dave Cutcliffe took a fine third in the two-litre Van Diemen that started life as a Formula Ford in 1985!

Sunday:- RAIN and more of it! Tracey Ashby was in BIG trouble as she had promised us all it wouldn't rain in Wales! The trouble was it was that fine rain, you know the sort that soaks you through no matter what (hang on this is sounding like a Peter Kay monologue!). Any way it was WET! Steady as she goes was the right approach but several drivers had spins and consequently there was a change in the Top Twelve line-up. However at the front it was another Eyles victory. Only this time Rodney took first as Tony, who was sharing his elder brothers Lola, had to settle for second. Tony Wiltshire was third and extended his series lead.

As everyone struggled to pack up soaking wet cars and gear thoughts were already turning to next Sunday at Anglesey Racing Circuit. The prayer mats will be out as we don't want another wet one!

Delayed Reaction!

Due to having my PC upgarded I am somewhat behind the times with my updates. Any way that Guy Gibson is in BIGtrouble because he predicted it wouldn't rain and guess what, it did!

However by the time we got round to the Top Twelve at the end of the day it was fine, sunny but a bit breezy!

Rd 6 SBD Motorsport British Sprint Championship at Anglesey Racing Circuit.

Tony Eyles took top spot in the Farce with a new course record.
Andy Platt grabbed second as he lowered the two litre Category Record in te Team Megashed Dallara.
Tony Wiltshire was third in the very orange Ralt after another demonstartion of grass cutting, this time at Radar.
Terry Holmes was fourth in the Team Tegra Reynard and re-inforced his position as the Fastest Chippy in Speed Eventing!
Guy Gibson was fifth, his best result so far this season as he gets to grips with the Team Megashed Dallara.
Martin Dowling trailed home sixth and is also looking for a co-driver for the Reynrad-Judd as John Payne has retired for the rest of the season.
Phil Lynch was pleased as Punch to take seventh in his Ralt-Alfa.
Kevin Lealan on his first visit to Anglesey Racing Circuit was glad to bring the FVL into eighth.
Simon Ashby took ninth in the Tramway Forge Reynard-Millington.
Tony Ellis was delighted to get into the run-off in the Megapin-Suzuki with just 1100cc of motive power and tenth was a bonus.
Big John Sampson in the brutal Quantum Xtreme was eleventh having spun out at School on his second run.
Steve Broughton failed to bring the OMS-Suzuki to the line as the engine had done half a lap blowing oil out of a split oil seal! He was reluctant to risk another engine after his Knockhill experience.

We can all now have a rest as the championship takes a FOUR WEEK break before battle recommences on 16th July at MIRA where the MAC will be in charge.
