Thanks icamachine. Hopefully before the start of the race on Sunday we will get an annoucement that the series has renewed until 2010. Hopefully! I do not want to see the negotiation drug out over months.

From TSN.ca:

Quote:
The president of the Long Beach Grand Prix Association says Champ Car needs to do a better job of scheduling its races if they're to return for a 23rd year at the seaside course.

Monday's announcement by HVM Inc. confirming Scandinavian drivers Bjorn Wirdheim and Ronnie Bremer brings the number of Champ Car entries to 16, the minimum required under the series contract with race promoters. At least three more official entries are expected by the time Friday qualifying begins.

"Champ Car came through under worse conditions last year, after CART collapsed," he tells the Times. "So let's see what they do this time."

Some reports suggest Champ Car might be willing to waive the sanctioning fee for next year's race if it can secure a three year deal. Long Beach is reportedly paying Champ Car $2.4-million this year to stage the race.

There's a lot of talk about KK having bought the Dover Street Division???
But,, lots of questions about "can" it be bought quietly?
Dover is a public company. Did Dover spin-off that division to a non-public company?? Can it be bought without shareholders knowing before hand??
But again,,, the latest quote from Mr White at Toyota seems to be that who races at LB next year is still in play??

And,, NASCAR has also talked with Dover/LB.

Wow. Very interesting to watch it unfold.

Unless there is some miracle or sewwt-talking or whatever, I have a feeling that CC's days at LB are numbered.

That is the first I have ever heard about Kalkhoven buying the street racing side of Dover....

Where did you hear or read that????

I'm not being critical...I just haven't heard that one until I read it here in your post...

After briefly searching the other forums, I think this thread might be the source: http://www.offcamber.net/forums/showthread.php?t=7218

Take it for what it's worth. Not much IMO.

Thanks for the link, StickShift...

I just hope that they don't have to do next year for free to land a multi-year deal, which is one item I recall reading...

But personally, I think the LBGP will take into consideration the many years that some form of Champ Cars (regardless of who did run it, or now runs it) has been involved with them....and:

1. If they do have success this year, and

2. They like the deal that they get from OWRS

that Champ Cars will keep the event....

The IRL wants Long Beach, but I don't think they will go overboard to work an insane deal just to get the event from OWRS.....
