Albers to sign 2 year contract with Midland

Tomorrow Christijan Albers will be announced as a Midland driver for the next 2 years!

Source: f1-racing.nl

I wonder who will drive the 2nd Midland car. Did Monteiro bring any money with him this season?

This could be the right time to join Midland - they're bound to be stronger next year than in 2005, as they will be putting maximum effort in. Albers could be the right driver for them as well, he surprised me greatly by how well he did last year, and may have more inherent pace than Montiero. As for Doornbos, he might be the favourite for the Williams Friday role.

I think Midland will be the new Minardi of F1.

Was Albers not linked to a testing role at Williams? What happened to that? Is a testing role at Willliams better than a racing role at Midland?

No, it's always better to race, no matter what team you're in.
Just look at Davidson who's struggling to break into a raceseat after his long period of testing for BAR.

That's not a rule, you see, Piquet Jrn says he prefers test driving for a top team rather to race for a mid or small team.

I don't share the same opinion, though Wurz and Zonta screwed big time their chances when racing.

Glad to see him get a drive, I hope the Midland is more competitive than the Jordans were this season though, because if 'Squadro Toro Rosso' make a leap in performance the Midlands could be on their own at the back, in which case Albers would probably be better off in the 3rd Williams.

Yes I agree with you. Squadra Toro Rosso should improve a lot with the help of Red Bull and therfore it could be very difficult for Midland to keep its 9th place.

You could be right there, that long term Midland will struggle to be competitive as there are no logner any teams with equally low funding around them. However, testing doesn't seem to work for experienced drivers - Panis is the onyl one to get back into F1 and stay there so far.

Good news for Albers. He did well for Minardi in 2005.

Is progressing from Minardi to Midland a big deal? Please note, I am not criticising Albers here; there is no doubt that he had a splendid season, but career-wise, is it really a good move? Of course, logic would have that a racing seat is better than a testing role, but in Albers case, the progress is from a bottom team(Minardi) to another bottom team(Jordan)? Unlike in the case of Alonso, Kimi or even Webber!

Any thoughts?
