Plumbed in extinguisher.

Right...

I've decided to get one of these, as I had a play with "picking up my hand held in a hurry" the other day, just to see what it would be like !

So naturally my first look was at DemonTweeks, about £175+vat for the most basic mechanical one.

Can anyone recommend anywhere else I should be looking ?

Its to go into a Spitfire btw,... so I don't need a super light, super flashy or super small one !

cheers

Dave.

There are the cheaper clubmans systems by both SPA and Lifeline in the Demon Tweeks catalog, both around £100.

Alternatively SPA have a direct website that is about 10% cheaper the Demon Tweeks - www.spa-direct.co.uk.

Assuming you've got a road car... buy someone's old BCF one. Technically illegal I think now, but much better at putting out fires than the new stuff.
You can have one of mine for £20 inc. pipes and nozzles etc.

No good for a race car as it will be out of date and the scroots would just love to knock that back.

They are extremelly easy to fill up with pressurised water and get a reading on the guage (I know I must confess to doing it when I accidetly dicharged one the day before a meeting and had to do this or withdraw). So I would steer very clear of secondhand stuff.

Me and my big mouth. Anyhow a good squirt of water would probably do the job, I mean that is all you get in a commercial fire extinguisher. What are the Darwin awards?

The Darwin Awards commemorate the remains of individuals who contribute to the
improvement of our gene pool by removing themselves from it in really stupid ways ...

Look up Darwin Awards on google or something similar.

I wouldnt bother with an electrically triggered system the only two I have experience of both failed because leaking powder had gummed up the works.
Confession cleanses the soul, so I'll admit that one went off by mistake in scrutineering so I quickly swopped wires so that I had an operating test light and nothing else.
Al..this is a case of the pan calliing the kettle black!

Buy a UK made system as they are now date stamped and have to be sent back to the manufacturer for checks and refill(?)

Fitting can be fun, dont leave it untill the last minute as you may have to design/bodge some fitting brackets. Also be carefull not to crush the tubeing.

Why do they have to go to the manufacture for checks /refills ?

I work in the fire industry and hell i agree about BCF (halon) but thats life and yes it is a banned product under the montreal protocol(i still have one at home)

What sort of system are you going for powder or foam ?

The problem with powder is that it will put out a pressure fire but has no post fire security so out goes the fire and then bang it relights??

AFFF foam will put out the fire and give you post fire security although it will not put out a pressure fire ?

If you do acidentally set of your systems go and see a local fire extighuisher company they dont charge that much and will be capabile of carrying out the work.

Also if you decide to go for a foam system ensure that you pay for the best foam concentrate as if you just settle for the standard then it cheap **** as for something like angus alcoseal , niagra, or a good afff AR foam you only need a small amount and change it out every year as foam detirates every year

Not sure when the manufacturer inspection requirement started. GPR mentioned it when I ordered an OMP system earlier this year.
