Taking photos like this....

This is a really open question. Apart from positioning on the track side, how do I take photos like this one?

One word - Practice.

I got my first SLR (10D) back in September and my first few outing where an interesting learning experince, but now I slowly getting better. Six months ago I would have never have dreamed of taking photos like this and this, as the old saying goes practice makes perfect.

Those are some top pics rdjones!! I take it then I'm gonna be better off going to a digital SLR then? At the mo, I have a 35mm Canon EOS300 but I was reading the thread where nearly everone was raving about the EOS 20D?

Thanks. I would say get a DSLR for sure I am happy with mine and I know that a lot of other forum members are happy with there's. 20D um yes I had one on order but got the the 10D when I saw an offer which was to good to turn. But to be honest I have heard some mixed reports about the 20D.

Give it a few months and get yourself a 10D the prices should drop and there will be a lot of second hand stuff coming up as people change over to the 20D's. I use a 10D and havent had any problems with it yet, all the photos on my website are taken with it click here
But definatly look at moving to DSLR's as you can just keep shooting all day (memory cards alowing) and you can look at the result straight away and make any changes.

The EOS 300 is a nice SLR for the money, I use one myself, but given the choice (and the cash) a gud digiSLR is going to be more use simply because of the number of photos you can take, the mroe u take, the better the chances of getting a gud one.

Cool cheers guys! I do like my EOS300 I've had a fiddle with other makes of camera, but the canon's always feel right, does that make sense? I've bought myself what digital camera too, which has feature on the 20D - time to start saving the pennies!!!!

I do have a 'fun' digi camera at the mo which is a Nikon Coolpix 5200 - very nice camera for the type it is.

Allen, I can totally agree with what you say about the Canon feeling right. I've had some reasonable results with the EOS 300, have a look at my site at http://matthew7686.fotopic.net/ for examples. The colour tone problems are down my scanner, its old and i've scanned at a low dpi to keep file size down. the LMES gallery is good for on track stuff, and brands is different, as it has plenty of pitlane and podium shots.
