Sauber having a re-think on Friday testing.

Sauber are rumoured to be re-thinking their participation in Friday testing. This makes sense, as I can't believe they planned to test as much as the factory teams in anycase.

Should they decide to got for this option, be interesting to see if they opt to run three cars and the potential re-appearance of Massa.

In another cruel twist for Allan McNish, if Renault do decide to opt out of Friday testing, this draws a line through Allan's 'shop window', that he was hoping to use to display his skills on a Friday.

First Jaguar, now Sauber... with all they are tested, I think many teams will not be testing more after the begin of this season.

For any team that feels their car to be decent already, and knows that money will be tight through the year this makes a lot of sense. It also lets them have a little edge over the big boys in terms of preparation at each track - and this is al the more pronounced now that the Sunday warm-up is gone. I think Renault would be foolish to back-track on their first thought - their car looks good, they have an excellent driver pair and a very good opportunity to steal points from Williams and McLaren if they can maximise their race weekend operations.

In a way I think Sauber are shadowing their key rival by following their example - quite smart.

I'm not really one for conspiracies, but it could help Bridgestone to have a good team on their rubber in the Friday tests...

I'm not sure it's a conspiracy theory, but it could be useful for Bridgestone. Offer Sauber all the extra tyres they want and Friday's extra sessions could be an easy choice for Peter.

Super, what's this about Renault opting out?

If more teams do it, the better it is. The track cleans quicker.

Adam

It's reported in Motorsport News that Renault is expected to opt out of Friday testing after encountering 'contractual difficulties' with Michelin.

I've seen the rumour elsewhere, as well. I can't believe this is Michelin's doing as surely they would love to have extra running on Friday to gather more date.

Makes you wonder if Williams and McLaren have objected in case Renault gain a tyre advantage? But surely they would all benefit from the data.

Very strange.

Thanks.

I remember something about it now. I think Autosport ran a story the complete opposite of that last week! Flav. denied it all. There we go. Now we know even less.

I hope the coninue to do it. With no chance that the top three will use Friday's extra session then it would be nice for Renault to use it.

Surely if they've agreed, then i presume they've signed some sort of contract (F1 doesn't work without contracts), surely they won't be able to get out of it?

RWC should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
The thing about renault opting out is BS.
As for sauber joing in,they will have to have permission from the orriginal three participants(as mad max stated when jag wanted to play in the sandpit as well)+ probably they wont get ALL the benefits
