thought the same thing - very cold but maybe one of Rudi Eggenburger's grand kids whispered in someone's ear?

Based on the camping crowd along with how many people were up top, the crowd was similar to what the 12hr was attracting in 2012/13/14, so growth is possible, The event has started from a base of nothing afterall

The whole point of the TCR World Tour was to link up with existing national TCR Series. Given the Aussies so far have been the only ones to trouble the regulars, why would they be looking to move the events? I’m sure in time we’d probably drop back to one though.

From memory SMP and Bathurst are on three year deals with the World Tour, but we know what contracts mean of course…

Big news!

Quote:
Motorsport Australia, which sanctions and promotes the SpeedSeries, has taken back broadcasting rights from Australian Racing Group, which did the Stan Sport deal under its previous regime.

As revealed in the latest Speedcafe Newscast podcast, the SpeedSeries will be shown live and free on the Seven Network.

All 10 rounds in 2024 are to be aired on 7Plus, Seven’s free streaming service.

It’s also understood selected events – or at least portions of – will be shown on secondary digital free-to-air channel 7mate.
https://www.speedcafe.com/2023/11/14...ng-to-free-tv/

I'm not sure how the series managed to extricate itself from the Stan deal, but this should be good for competitors across all Speed Series categories.

Hopefully this can fuel some growth in the TCR grid! They are still fairly affordable cars which (potentially) put on good racing!

I think it was a poor deal from Stan’s point of view as well.Big rights money and negligible viewer numbers.
I only wish either Optus or Foxtel could have saved Stan some more money and taken Champions League rights off them.Used to really enjoy that but not enough to pay a Stan subscription for a few days each month of the season.

Boyd and Mcmellan sold the dummy to both Stan AND the competitors at the same time and nobody benefited.

If only Kayo took the competition seriously and made their service an ACTUAL streaming app.

.
The people who got to keep the Stan money and then charged competitors $2000 per round per car for “TV production costs” definitely did.

Only tangentially related to TCR, but TCM buyout to see TCM exit ARG:

Should we run a book on whether ARG will see out the year?

It’s pretty common knowledge that ARG/Rogers are focusing on TCR and TA next year, this TCM news isn’t new and neither is S5000’s departure….

The only question mark I have is the 6hr. With TCR and TA not on the bill for it, what incentive do ARG have to keep it?
