You know it is a homologated product right? The team isn't doing much to "make it better" as much as learn how to drive and manage the car. They aren't getting BoP based on finishing order

Homologated is another word for performance limited. Based on ???????????? Too much of that in my opinion. If a car is slow then it's slow. Leave it up to the teams to find where their hidden performance increases are. They spec out the cars to begin with and then every car goes through the initial homologation process for approval. That should have taken care of "making it fair". Too much of a possibility of favoritism in the new BoP rules. BMW gets an edge based on crappy performance on the track. I loved the days where performance was engineered by the teams.

Yeah, and that era went where exactly?? Oh yeah, blew up in its face and ended each and every time it has been tried. Thanks, I'd prefer 20 years of racing over 4 years of the same team and costs rising and rising until everyone leaves

Yes in an ideal world no BoP and go for it. That is not where this series is and not where it is going to be I’m afraid. And for quite understandable reasons.

That every thread just turns into a philosophical BoP moan is ridiculous. There is so much to talk about, but it is lost because someone has to say something we all know!

Of course, the latest changes are relevant to today, but the bigger overall can be elsewhere. Of course that will require a little effort and consideration. Which we know people aren’t that crazy about on the internet, otherwise we might as well just have one thread that is always about BoP.

Look, let’s talk about it. Put it in another thread, like it is in the European part. In fact, I will move these posts there are the seed for that. Unless you are particularly belligerent or just a bit dim you will understand this isn’t censorship it is promoting that conversation and, of course, all other conversations!

Let’s have the one BoP thread, but also allow others.

I don’t see any great change v. Long Beach. The different track and conditions are probably more important.

It’ll be to make minor changes, because that is what they want it to be.

The takeaway here is that they are minor, so we don’t expect a sudden change in the, *checks thread title*, 2023 IMSA season.

I think the BoP thread is a great place to discuss and understand BoP and why you’d actually expect the changes to be minor if the actual BoP is going well!

Mainly, GTD is more to NA, whereas GTD Pro has teams that also race overseas including Le Mans.

SRO GT has a Europe, North America, and Asia series for its world challenge.

What do you mean? There have been Am winners with full Pro cars in the field there as well

I agree with the format questions. Do we really need 2 classes if everyone is in the same machinery? Could a sub trophy for Ams work? I think it looks bad for the pro class to be beaten by the am class. It just doesn't seem like a needed thing now.

That's not a bad idea, it depends if they actually want to sell it. I do agree we could see Pro go, it seems no one's really interested in it anymore and it's no good seeing just two makes in it.

Only 5 cars but 5 manufacturers - Porsche, Mercedes, Corvette, Lexus, Aston Martin. Add Ferrari, Lambo, BMW and possibly Acura or McLaren for the endurance cup or one-off. Next year Ford will join the class. I don't see IMSA doing away with the class anytime soon, entries were never gonna be over 10 anyway (and we had 10 @ Daytona + 8 @ Sebring).

Regardless from the start I treated GTD as one category and I will consider the IMSA Weathertech series in 2024 to have 3 classes. GTP, LMP2, and GTD

The Weathertech Mercedes Proton team at Daytona was the wildest celebrations for a 2nd place finish I have ever seen.

I felt GTD was one class with two separate sections. We don't need to many classes and I think those 3 as enough

The Weathertech Mercedes Proton really seem to have got their act together, no wonder they are so happy
