and i think a MSNZ gold star would have about the same meaning. If he gets 5 gold stars in a row, he gets a treat.
Getting sanctioned does not automatically qualify it for a gold star status,
there are lots of Sanctioned series that do not get gold stars.

Dont think so either as the sanctioned series I ran in has stuff all say on race dates.

Only thing I can see is rules applications.
The way I understand it at present someone complains that the car has the wrong sticker or whatever and the ST officials go 'so what'
and there is no more that can be done by the other competitors as it is a class thing and up to the class to enforce,

If they become sanctioned i believe that the officials must follow through and if they deliberatly let someone away with 'Cheating'
then the official can be penailsed/punished by MSNZ by fine or licence removal etc etc,

So why would either side want it?
MSNZ are going to like like ***** for penalising people all the time,
like posted earler about the $1000 fine for yellow flags etc,
may not be true but that is what the perception is,
and ST's loose some of the ability to have control of thier rules as they cant just send out an email the week before a race and change the rules,
they have to go through MSNZ and get approved and posted etc.

The seies that I ran in questioned dropping it's sanctioned series status last year and I know it will come up again this AGM too.

Maybe there is so much cussing and moaning going on in the back ground, and they are so close to the action they can't handle it. Pass the Buck ??

It was a 1.04.4 by Kayne Scott. This year that time would have given you Grid 17!!!!

Have they turned up the wick or just sorted the handling more now?

It's a quantum leap really, but where has that come from? I picked the times would be in the 3's but not a 3.2 for Pole.

Atmospherics on Qualifying day this year and last were fairly similar I would have thought. By that I mean the air density probably wouldn't have been any better, so no extra horsepower from that. Which leaves the specification and/or tuning of the cars, or the tyres.

Have some of the changes for this season improved the performance of the car, has the tyre compound been improved this season, has the ECU been "chipped up" .... so many questions.

Perhaps Mr Petch will be able to shed some light on these matters at some stage.

Gorgeous. Happy to send off some full-res versions of this to promax, Swedish, etc. Would look good framed above the mantelpiece.

The Scott 64.4 was for Rd1 last year
At Rd 4 pole was Scotty Mac(?) at a 63.8 from memory
Ant put together a classy lap for his 64.2
Anyone crying fould needs to take a look at themselves as to why they believe their rig wouldn't do the same.

One of the really cool aspects of control class racing is the way that every aspect is optimised.

Not as easy to do as just bolting more hp in which I suppose is why it lacks popular appeal with many competitors

I didn't hear anyone cry foul, but certainly most were very impressed. Especially that he found another six tenths over young Scottie from the previous season. And I agree, it's a black art to get everything optimised, including the driver. As the late Peter Blake once said "If it was easy, everyone would be doing it".

I wonder if ironing out the uphill hump has also made a minor difference to lap times?

Bearing in mind the track is still new, over a relatively short time, even the most experienced drivers may just not quite have reached their peak in the new cars last year?

Absolutely agree, this is the series/teams and drivers evolving and learning the intricacies of the chassis, the set-up, and of course the track. Be interesting to see if this 'quicker pace' is found at the other events, i.e. could we see 1.22 being cracked at Ruapuna? Coulthards qually lap from what i can tell was a 1.23.7, but also happened in April, whereas this year it is in march.

I'd really be keen to see what sort of time a new V8SC (CoTF) could do around HD now with a range of drivers. I'm pretty confident it would be damn close.

Maybe you could drop a few grid girl ones into the grid girls thread HP. It is getting a bit sad lately.

GT 86 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
I was involved in the support classes in the weekend. Just letting you all know we thouroughly enjoyed the event and while some classes were a bit light on entries there is good interest already for the next round from previous and new competitors that didnt compete. I was dissapointed in xtreme sports and GT class as were the competitors but wonder if anyone else has heard that GTRNZ had made a statement to their competitors that if they run with supertourers their enrty for the V8SC round would be rejected. Given the recent newsletter sent out expressing major concern over TV coverage, are things not well in this class. Any info would be appreciated.

With all the talk of sanctioning etc it is quite interesting that MSNZ has put out this,

which explains quite well some of the reasons classes may want sanctioning etc.

http://news.motorsport.org.nz/jargon...tioned-series/

although the article seems to be unfinished at the very end???

Yes it does seem unfinished, but it's quite helpful too. Makes it sound all very simple to get sanctioned, but if that is the case why have ST not been sanctioned as yet when they clearly want to be?
