I'm in Shock !!
Imagine if they get a top flight engineer !!
Shacking Des was a poor effort having only worked at FPR- he had not gained heaps of experience.
But a gun LOCAL engineer would make me eat my shorts.

Can anyone give me a brief rundown on Ward and Benson? Who they are? what teams and roles have they done on the past?

seems like good news.
I would really love to see this team do well with its current drivers.

Rob Benson use to prepare the engines for the WGR Coke cars before heading to the states (NASCAR) and then returning this year to work for BJR.

He also use to do HRT motors, around the 1990 VL days I believe.

Someone else is bound to know way more than me though............

I have a sneaking suspicion that Mr.Benson will become involved in the engineering of the cars also.

Has he ever filled that position before????? I think not. From my understanding he his purely an engine guy and not a bad one at that but hey, if FPR think that he will have time on his hands in the engine dept then why not give him something to fill in the idle time.Better send him a book on how to pull a shock apart as i doubt he has done it in a long long time.

So Prodrive have swallowed there pride and employed an Aussie who has a clue about V8 SC engines, about bloody time. FPR should now have decent engines for the Enduros.

Who was BJR's engine man before Benson? they had decent engines before Benson.

Is Theckos engine man still on the dole from V8SC engines?

IIRC, wasn't there some carryover from GSR into FPR regarding the whole operation, not just engines. The team figured quite prominently under that guise at Bathurst running well and eventuall finishing 2nd at Bathurst. The Australian expertise in this peculiarly Australian series just can't be underestimated. It really must count for something.

It's good news for FPR I hope he can get the engines heading in the right direction but is unfortunate to see Ford pinching staff from other Ford teams mid season.

Rob Benson will be an asset for FPR when he eventually moves there. Bolting on 50bhp and virtually guaranteed reliability almost immediately is a brilliant option.

Having said that, is it disturbing to anyone else that Ford teams keep stealing from other Ford teams for their technical personnel?

If the Ford mobs were clever about this, they would go hunting Holden personnel exclusively..... and put a hole in some of their team line ups... if they wanted to get mercenary about it that is....

It's a very clever move on FPR's part. Only one more box on Mr.Lowndes wish list to be ticked and he'll stay for sure

The problem is GTR, that if FPR had stolen someone from the Holden camp, they probably would have filled the void with MR Benson!

Benson has been working with pushrod V8's most his life and the yanks do V8's better than anyone else which is where he has been. I think the poms have realised this.

"When in Rome" etc...FPR have finally hired a top aussie engine builder AND one with massive experience with pushrod V8s AND recent V8 development and dyno experience with the US Hendricks Motorsports NASCAR engine programme (albeit with Chev V8s at Hendricks)

HENDRICKS dyno something like 750 V8s each season!!!!!!!!!!

If the 50hp AND reliability are acheived Craig might stay

Its the best carrot FPR/Fry have dangled in front of Craig,

Lets hope Benson delivers...AND QUICKLY..after the last few rounds with the "Clatterpillar" cars' shocking results

Makes you wonder what kind of contract Benson was on at BJR. BJR would have had to be payed out for the rest of his contract if not more??
