COLIN STUBBS should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
trailer brakes

anyone in the know on auto reverse brakes like the knott type on a brian james trailer? iv been scratting my head for a while trying to get mine to go backwards,without putting the brakes on. iv fitted a new damper and all cables are free. is there anything that im missing?

How old is it and what system do you have, I.E. is it autoreverse or should you have to flip a lever over to reverse it? can you send or post a picture.

timbo its the latest type no flipover lever,with the spring cannister on handbrake. think there must be something adrift with the shoes but at a loss to see it. all looks ok and iv got tons of movement on the hitch before they come on.

Why not call Brian James and ask about it? They might know if it's a common problem or not...

I bet one or more of the wheels had the shoes reversed? Had the same thing on a trailer I bought a while back. Someone had fitted the shoes the wrong way round on one wheel and it locked solid in reverse and did nothing going forward! One shoe sits in a slipper plate.

spot on chris! had the damn things to bits 3 times and never noticed. begining to think it was black magic. took a long time to realise that one brake locking in reverse soon puts the others on! see you at lydden? cheers.
