Brian James Trailer Brakes
I run a twin wheel Brian James trailer and am about to start its winter rebuild/maintenance.
Im thinking of changing the brake shoes this year. Does anyone know if the shoes are a standard from any road car or do i have to buy the replacements from Brian James for ££££'s. |

The brakes on my BJ trailer are Alko, I think that's the name. You should be able to get them from a caravan or trailer dealers or even BJ themselves.

All caravan dealers will be able to get Al-Ko spares, they're the running gear for almost all UK caravans these days. Get the diameter of the brake drum in mm, and that'll determine the shoes you need, usually 1637mm or 2051mm on caravans IIRC (spot the ex-caravan parts manager).

eek! knew what I meant, but didn't think to double check!
The brake shoes are coded 1637, and 2051, referring to the drum being either 16.37cm diameter or 20.51cm diameter. phew. Al. (still ex-parts manager, well, ex-everything at the moment - gizza job!) |

I was gonna say . . . I've yet to see a trailer with 385 50 ZR 90 tyres for that size of brakes !

Hmmm.....odd numbers! Brake drum diameters are normally nice round numbers, in either Imperial or metric units; maybe caravans have their own system of measurement!
