Thruxton F2
Who's going/looking forward to this meeting? It will bring back some memories for me when i started marshaling in the late 70's early 80's and F2 was still pretty good.

Yes the Thruxton Easter weekend meetings were a high spot of the year.

You and I must've started marshaling around the same time then Nick.
I see that Autosport reckons 20 F2 machines out, so should be good, and early reports were that most grids would be high....roll on the weekend. |

Really looking forward to the event as I'm a bit too young to have seen F2 cars in period and I have a feeling that they and the Sports Racing Masters cars could be rather spectacular around Thruxton. |

Likewise, I was too young to see F2 in its heyday at Thruxton. But have seen them at Brands, and they do drive them hard, just like in the old days.
Looks to be a great couple of days, let's hope the weather isn't an issue. |

Haven't been to a Thruxton Easter meeting for a couple of years, so really looking forward to being there. Unfortunately it does somewhat rely on me managing to shake off the bout of 'manflu' that I've been suffering with since the weekend.

Looking forward to F2's, remember them fondly in the 70's throwing themselves at us! Known to have post 10, out the back, newly revamped, what with the cold and the snow could be an interesting couple of days. Looking forward to seeing all old friends again.

Looks promising - providing the weather is kind.
Worry not about the F2s being ready to race - they probably get driven faster nowadays than they did in period. Watch out for Martin Stretton in a 1600cc car vs the 2 litre ones. Regular names are on the list! Make sure you have ear protection - they scream in unsilenced form. My history is as a callow youth I was a wheel polisher and we ran historics in the F2 support races. In those days we practiced on Sat went home for Sun and returned for Monday racing (rather like Oulton this weekend). We would stand on the pit wall for the big race - wonderful stuff. See you all at the weekend. |

Norbert & Bladders,
Why / How do you know what post your on? We were told at the Observers training day and if wished we had the opportunity to drive out and look at the alterations, just a bit of foresight I suspect. It is OK out there but will be blo=dy windswept and with no loos, no carparking nearby, no shelter and no commentary it could be a long two day, why if you want to swop posts? Have a great weekend everyone, I may even appear in Orange - Bladders.... |

Swap posts, no you will do a far better job than me out there, not only that it's time I was at the posh end again.
Trevor kept me out in the sticks all last year. I'm working Saturday track day at Goodwood, on top of the bank at Lavant so will have had my share of airfield draft for the weekend. Have a good one everybody. |

They were going to call you to get me up but they thought you winch wouldn't be man enough!!
That was me at your window when the driver on to straight tow thought he didn't need the steering wheel. Last edited by Circuitmarshal; 24 Mar 2008 at 21:10. |

The trip from East Yorkshire was well worthwhile. Thanks for your company to the folks on Post 15. To have cars in real four wheel drifts at high speed about 10 feet from your feet is a real privilege. The scene took me back 30+ years so I'm overwhelmed with nostalgia. Verdict - F2's spectacular, Top Hat brilliant and Healeys awesome. Grand day out!
