Jaguar's comeback?
It was reported that there were people from Jaguar and Apex Motorsport evaluating and seeing what's going on in Le Mans. They already run the Jaguar XKR GT3s but speculating is always funny. Why would they specifically come to Le Mans to watch the GT scene? Especially with the uncertainty of future GT classes. And remember Jaguar's new owners.
ps. Is tobacco advertising still allowed in Le Mans? Last edited by deggis; 19 Jun 2008 at 21:52. |

Tobacco adverts are a real no no in France.
Maybe the Jag boys were on freebies from the Aston team to show what side of the bed they should have been on when Ford sold them |

Neither do I, and that was just jokey hint at Silk Cut. So now back to Jaguar please.

Hi,
It will be very interesting to see if Jaguar returns, in LMP form. Perhaps in LMP2 form just to relive the glory days of Jaguar vs Porsche |

I'm hoping for a customer programme with the XKR and an LMP1 EVO works effort in Jaguar Racing Green

If they step up from GT3 to something bigger I think it will be GT2.

Yep, just to see Tata take on the Apex program would be wonderful. And bring the program to GT-2 (1 in 2010 spec?) with factory blessing (works in 2010?).

Jaguar certainly needs something, they're back to their old mans car image.
The likes of Audi are light years ahead in the cool stakes, even though Jaguars new roadcar models look good. Aston Martin have attracted so much positive attention at Le Mans in recent years, Jaguar would be bigger still. Just as Ferrari needs F1, Jaguar needs Le Mans. |

The new Jaguar XKR-S looks like it could be the basis for a GT2 winner, they could even launch a track day version to compete with the 911 RS and 430 equivalent to ram home the sportier image. While the new Jaguar XF certainly looks like they are attacking the BMW, Audi, Mercedes sports saloon market, rather than settling for the old man image. What they now need is a renewed sporting image, and that only comes with success on the track. I'm certain a Jaguar LMP1 and GT2 would be even more popular than Aston Martin. A few years back this may have been fanciful talk, but with the new owners, the revival of sportscar racing, Evo/single GT class regs, and a desperate need to back up the new Jaguar road car models with a cool, sporty image, I'd say Jaguar would be fools if they didn't take this opportunity. those pics are darn fine, I mean great looking cars, But wind up like the old ford thunderbird, started out as a sports car 1954-56, then went to a pheudo luxery sports two seater.
ie they lost their image. In my opinion, for what ever that meansm, scrap the luxo crap, gut the son of a gun, cloth seats, no radio, minimal computer aids, minimal carpet, short gear ratio linked to a V8 or V10. 450-500 bhp. Oh those jaguar TV advertisements. WHollly crap, if those ads arnt' aimed strait for the limp wristeds they need to fire their ad agency Last edited by AU N EGL; 21 Jun 2008 at 17:11. |

I fear that if they went back into (any kind of) racing it would be all metallic green marketing and little winning. Jaguar shuttle buses everywhere, but no Le Mans victories. Hopefully I am wrong. I'd like it to happen, but I'd rather it didn't than it did and was done poorly.
In addition I feel it should be for overall wins, not just GT. They're not as small as Aston so it should be higher. |

XKR GT1 now, perhaps
I think it could (SHOULD) happen. But only if Stephane Ratel sorts some GT rules with the FIA and ACO. Sorry Stephane, but sort it out :@ Last edited by Aysedasi; 22 Jun 2008 at 17:00. |
